With the Christmas season upon us, I need some holiday tunes for the pseduo-iPod (actually, it's a Sansa). My caveat: No songs that you would reasonably expect to hear at a Catholic grade-school's Christmas pagent. No Frosty the Snowman, no Jingle Bells, no Silent Night and no Hark the Herald Angels Sing. I don't care if Pop Diva XYZ does the best version of "Away in a Manger" ever or if Punk Band #477 does this awesome riff on "White Christmas" or if the Indie Garage Band of the Month made "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" into a funeral dirge. I don't want to hear it. Actually, that last one might be kind of cool.

Anyway, lay some tune suggestions on me.

John Lennon: Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

Thirded. What little I've heard is awesome.

Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas is You.

Seconding John Lennon.

Not a Christmas song per se, but Long December by Counting Crows.

I like "Christmas Day" by Dido and the BNL & Sara M. version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Oh and "Merry Christmas Baby" by Springsteen.

Third'd.

And BNL's version of Jingle Bells is the greatest depressing/happy-maniac (in one song!) Jingle Bells ever. It can be done. I know you hate it, but listen to it just for the experience.

Harry Connick Jr's "Ava Maria" gets my Christmas motor running. And just about any version of "O Holy Night", but Celene and Mariah seem to be my top two for that song.

From the research I did, Sansa equipment is pretty crappy. For a non-iPod I opted for our Creave Labs Zen which is pretty cool.

you know how I know you're gay? you *want* to listen to crappy christmas music. Smiley: laugh

The e260R model -- 4 gigs

My mp3 player needs are pretty modest: I download or rip songs and it makes them come out from my headphones or car radio. I've no interest in or use for the video/picture features or special music channels or whatever else it has. I have heard complaints about its special video/image file format but I'll never tinker with it anyway.

No complaints with the "make music play" portion of it though.

Christmas With the Vandals: Oi to the World
is a brilliant Christmas album. "Oi to the world" being, of course, the greatest Christmas Punk song after:

Operatica Christmas Classics Link

Old Christmas classics mixed with Opera and Electronics. Heard them last night for the first time so I am not sure how good the album is but worth a listen if you like that kind of funky mix.

haha, I love that version...mostly because it gives me an opportunity to laugh at David Bowie for being such a pompous ***.
