MCSE Certification. I’m tired of making the amount of money I am making so this is the next logical step. I do desktop support for a title company in the bay area. This includes, but not limited to, unlocking user accounts, re-installing workstations to be issued to new users, fixing printers, surfing the web, and playing WoW at work when my boss is on vacation. Frankly, I’m bored to tears and want to do something more and get paid more then what I’m getting right now. Granted, my job is one of the easiest ones I have ever had the good fortune to have but I’m over it. I need a challenge and going to This School is going to get it for me.

I will be taking the following classes along with 3 more electives (don’t know which ones yet).

1) Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment

2) Implementing, Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment

3) Planning a Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure

4) Planning, Implementing and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure

The courses span over one year and cost about 8500.00$ this includes all software, books, materials, and Instructors. One of the main reasons I am going to the afore mentioned school is, they work around my schedule. I can go to work during the day and go to classes at night from 6-9pm. if I don’t feel like going to the campus on any given night, I can log in at home to do my work.

Guess that’s it... I know I’m rambling but it's almost time to go home and I’m just killing time to 5pm...

Congrats Aadynn! Newb question, will Microsoft Windows Server 2003 be upgraded any time soon? I was just thinking about how Vista being released today to businesses...

Another newb question - what is the earning potential once you have the MSCE Cert?

Only when it is some numbnuts nobody such as yourself. WE like to hear about the lives of the Asylum regulars. It gives US more ammo to give them **** over and lets those of US in a better place feel better about ourselves.

Good luck with your classes. I finally broke down in the spring and am more or less doing the same thing, through a different school. I've been going since about May, and am about to test again. The classes aren't that great really, at least for the price, but luckily my company is paying for most of it. Mine is more of a self study thing, they call it mentored learning.

I've heard they're ramping up Exchange 2007, but not sure when it'll be released for sure. I haven't heard anything yet of the new Server OS yet.

Earning potential for MCSE's varies according to location, experience, etc. I can tell you 3 of my friends are MCSE's here in northern Colorado. They range from around 65k to 80k a year, which ain't bad for here. The closer to Denver you get, the higher it goes. Six figures isn't rare for the immediate Denver area, or so I hear.

That said, a certification is only worth something if you have the skills to back it up. Anyone can push through the tests and get certified, and sometimes they can even fool employers into believing they know what they're talking about... for a while.

Good luck. Getting your MCSE will be tough, but stick with it. (It will be worth it)

Cool, thanks for the info! Something I might consider doing as a backup/alternate kind of work for me to do as this tech writing career gets spotty at times, even though I make a good living at it - I'm primarily interested in stability at this point.
