Its a bit of a slow old day here on the forum.

So I thought I'd link to a bit of writing that I found particularly poetic and entertaining (in its own apocolyptic way).

I know thats not what this forum is for as such, but evry so often the debates and diatribes here lead me on to links and subjects that I never gave much thought to in the past, and I end up being entertained or educated or enlightened by some information, wit or as in this case, some beautifully expressed writing.

So if you've got nothing to do for 10 minutes or so, have a read thru this.

Heres a short excerpt...

Quote:
Our emptiness is compensated for by the gigantism we see everywhere around us: from an epidemic of obese children to bloated McMansions. But whether its wooly mammoths or SUVs -- or Elvis, stuffed into a sequined jumpsuit -- or the fate of unwieldy armies of over-extended empires, bogged down by local insurgencies -- gigantism is a precursor to extinction. Worse, at present, this phenomenon is transpiring on a global basis.

Corporatism has rendered us analogous to the last days of Elvis ... Puffy, bloated -- we wheeze our way through our set ... Guarded gate communities are our own private Graceland where we die in excess and isolation. The electric lights sequined across the entire planet, now glow from space like one of Elvis's Las Vegas costumes. But does no one see the dying man beneath the jeweled jumpsuit? The land and The King are one.

America has left the building.

Whenever i hear about the demise of America, or its "empire", or its importance in the world, I can't help but think of my History teacher when I was in school, who would always talk about, and laugh at, "The Rise and Fall of the Rise and Fall of America" theory.
