Sorry, not a thread about salutations to hookers...
After almost 3 months of endlessly applying for jobs and schlepping to interviews (btw, 9 times out of 10, I am a great interviewee) in my monkey suit, I finally landed a year-long contract technical writing gig. I'll be pulling in $50/hr, so while I would have preferred to land a permanent job, this isn't too shabby.
Why did it take so long, you ask? Well, other than the obvious that companies went with someone better suited or people willing to accept lower than market pay, I have the feeling most of the nitwit job recruiters, hiring managers, and HR personnel out there only gave my resume a cursory glance. They couldn't glean from my resume that I had clearly displayed my California address at the top of my resume in CAPITAL letters.
Instead, I think, they would look at the most recent jobs I've done back in Maryland. So I made a special effort to clearly spell out in my cover letters that I have re-located back to San Francisco.
It's infuriating how obtuse job recruiters, HR personnel and hiring managers can be.
I'm glad this was not the case with my current agent and hiring manager. Well, at least I won't have to worry about going through this again for another year - hopefully I'll land that permanent gig by then.
