Hoyer won by about a 50 vote margin.

Yay! Not that Steny is that fantastic (although not bad), but Murtha is a reknowned asshat. His own staff can't even stand his ***.

Nancy dorked up in supporting Murtha for that post. I'm relieved that he didn't make the cut.

Nah. It was the right thing to do. She owed him, and not endorsing him after he asked outright would have been a lot more damaging.

Hoyer strikes a good balance in terms of PR even though he was occasionally slightly off the reservation when he was a whip. I wouldn't for a second put it past Pelosi to have been off the record supporting a Hoyer win.

I can see it being the right thing to do if she were Suzy B. Congressperson, but not as the Speaker. As leader, she needs to look to the party's greater good, not her own personal debts. As a person who harped on ethics, she should keep a careful eye on her own.

I'd say as speaker she'd be well advised to pay off any personal debts she can now rather than feel or be percieved as beholden to Murtha when Iraq policy or whatever is in play.

I'd been under the impression that Hoyer had this locked up from the day after the election, but maybe it was more contentious then I realized.

Smiley: laugh I doubt Pelosi would ever feel beholden to anyone, but I see your point. I suppose I'm looking at more from a PR standpoint. Having turned the political tide, I hate for small PR gaffes to muck up our shiny new chassis.

Haha, well. We two being some of the 10,000 people who will actually be able to name the Majority leader in 6 months I wouldn't be overly troubled by this effecting the electorate too much.

Oh, the usual circuit was already all over this one. "Big defeat for Pelosi!" "Pelosi's grasp on power weakened!" etc etc.

We have six weeks yet before she even gets her name on the door. Gather ye roses while ye may, I guess.

murtha was responsible for democrats to stop being afraid to say, this is stupid, its time to get out.

he led the charge by saying what the rest of the chicken sheit poll surfing dems were afraid to say, even though their support base was screaming at them to say it.

he actually started the charge that made it ok for other dems to come out of the closet and actually stand up to this stupidity. even hillary wouldnt publically condem the mess in Iraq untill after Murtha led the charge.

that said, im not saying he should be number 2 for that one moment of stardom. even a stoped clock is right twice a day. but he certainly deserves some recognition from his party for not being as chicken sheit as the rest of them. a true warrior at heart. a true war hero. a man amoung featherd poll surfers.

God bless him for standing up and being counted. mabe the rest of the poll surfers will take heed now.

Murtha is also a member of the "culture of corruption", ( the one that supposedly only plagues republicans), thank god he lost. Spineless, cowardly, incompetent sack of ****.Even the dems can do better, and thankfully they did.

Nah, Nancy just came to an understanding with the President. She was informed she is now not the Representative from California but she is a Lincoln Democrat and asked to say the Pledge of Allegance. Has to be hard on her having to listen to a Reserve Officer. Hell Tip had to listen to a couple of them along the way.
