I'm babbling about how even though these terrorists expect an apology to make everything better for their victims, an apology from the US won't make things all better for them.

Oh, well, in this instance the "them" apologizing and the "them" engaged in conflict with the US would be two different sets of "thems", neither authorized, I would suspect, to speak for the other - or even able to do so, since one group presumably speaks an Indonesian dialect and the other speaks Arabic.

But it's so much more simple to label everyone who has a beard into "them terrorists".
