In France, we call that "La Pensée Unique".
It's funny though, because a quick at the world around you would make you think that there might other ways.

Exactly how good would the socialized medical care be if in the process we eliminated that pool of wealth?
Cuba.
One of the best Health Care in the world, eventhough it's a very poor country, suffereing from a huge trade embargo from arguably its most profitable neighbour.
And the worst is that a lot of people read the comments from Smash and automatically assume its "communist". It's such a simplistic and manichean mindset. Communist/Capitalist, good/evil, black/white. It's ridiculous how people came to thinking like that. The world is just shades of greys.
Which leads me to this:

I think that one of the biggest problems now is that American education standards are dropping. Students are graduating from High School not knowing what the parts of speech are. The difference between New York State Regents exam 10 years ago and one today is amazing.
Compare this to a country such as France where children devote most of their time to schoolwork and the grading is much, much tougher. Not that France doesn't have its own problems with the poor (I'm sure RedPhoenixxxx could comment), but still, the fact remains that the education standards in other modernized countries are higher than ours

I haven't been in the American school system, so I can't really comment on it. And we have our fair share of stupid people in France. But it does seem to me like a lot of people don't learn how to *think*. They learn theories, and their justification, and that's it. "Clever people" are the ones that can express those theories, and their justifications, nicely.
But as soon as someone comes with point of view that isn't mainstream, he's labelled a Communist/wacko. There's a huge lack of critical thinking.
And it's right here in this thread. Smash talks about "Free Health care, education, and public services", and he's labelled a Communist and told to move to NK or China (As if China was still "Communist". Ha.). I don't know if you're doing it on purspose, or if you really can't see further than your stupid Manichean view of the world. Just like when gbaji says Scandinavian countries are communist and are handed free goods.
I sometimes tell my friends about these discussions, and we have a good laugh. Then we think "Well actually, it's not that funny."
Anyway, you could always move to Europe, Smash. You'd fit right in.
