Here's another attempt at forcing those pesky poor to fend for themselves gone wrong...
Quote:
LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles hospital accused of dumping homeless patients on downtown's Skid Row is facing the first criminal charges in the city's campaign to crack down on the practice and clean up the area.

Kaiser Permanente is among 10 hospitals under investigation by city prosecutors for allegedly discharging homeless patients to the streets of Skid Row rather than to a relative or shelter.

The case against it stems from a March surveillance video showing a 63-year-old patient from Kaiser Permanente's Bellflower hospital wandering Skid Row in a hospital gown and slippers.

on #2, yes REDUCE the min. wage. you reduce the expense of building things, you reduce the expense of BUYING things.

No, you reduce the cost of MAKING things and hope the free market reduces the cost of buying things, which nearly never happens when you allow cooperations the options of colluding and price fixing and spending their increased profits on yachts.

yes smash that is correct, thus my:

2a: note** referring to a company that makes a product for $0.50 yet sells it for $15.00 and the total cost to sell that item is only $1.50. this type of thing happens all over the place from housing, to cars, to cloths, to food.

without that PART #2 would be worthless just as you mentioned. force the corps. to LIST their wholesale/manufacturing cost much like we have done with the auto manufactures. it is required by law that when you go to a car dealer to buy a new car they MUST provide the customer with the dealer invoice that fully discloses 100% of the cost of the vehicle including what the dealer PAID for that vehicle.

do that with the rest of the products out there and see what happens. let free market and barter once again rule.

I'd also like to see some kind of program implemented that if you want to go to college, you can, without worrying about money. Maybe some kind of scaled tuition.

Maybe like completely free tuition and room and board to all public universities?

well to an extent. if the house hold income is in the "poor" or "impoverished" range then sure i am all for it as long as the student has at least a C average and is a high school grad.

i would GLADDY support that kind of movement. Maybe not to Universities, but say trade schools so they can better them self, get out of the slums, make a decent living, and if they wish to pay for an education at a community school or major university by all means more power to them.

I don't.

I think there should be a base level safety net of food and housing for everyone provided by the government, independent of means testing or qualification, forever.

Oh, also health care, education, and public transportation.

Sorry.

smash i really hope you are kidding here and not being realistic. we do not live in a communist state nor do i want to.

education IS FREE up to a point, health care is so fubar in this country, thank the sue happy nuts from the 80s for that one, and public transportation in the US is so sub par i would love to see it much more like the EU, but doubt that will ever happen in my life time.

NO the Gov. should NOT provide a free ride for everyone, work for what you have and then you DESERVE what you have. do not work for it, and well you deserve exactly what you get NOTHING.

I am not kidding.

You wouldn't want to because you've never seen one that was functioning in a country with massive wealth and resources. It's what Chomsky would call "lack of a better example".

At any rate, I'm sure you don't know why you wouldn't want to live in a country with less suffering for all of the people, so when you do, let me know.

Not that I don't share the dream, per se, but if we went to a socially communist model, we'd have to still remain economically capitalist, or else all the wealth would dry up.

if that were truly the case, we would not need to live in a communistic state as you desire. if you really think communism is the way to go, please move to a communist state like NK or China.

i do not desire for people to be impoverished, but i also am not foolish enough to believe in free hand outs as that makes people lazy. its called consequences for actions. you make a bad choice you live with the consequence, if you make a good choice you live with that too.

stay in school, get educated, do not take the easy road to education (dont cheat, do not accept grades you do not deserve, etc...) learn how to be a productive citizen learn and master a skill and get a job doing something productive to support a family if you wish to have children or be married.

do not go around "knocking up chicks" because it makes you a man, do not let that "man" get you prg. just because it makes you a "woman" neither of them do anything but put a burden on an already stressed society.

free hand outs DO NOTHING but keep those receiving them down. why do you think the current welfare system is FAILING... we give out billions annually across the US in "free hand outs", are those people getting off of welfare? nope, they stay on it, they get prg. again to have more kids to STAY on it, and the entire time they are doing NOTHING to improve their chance of getting OFF of welfare. they are being kept down by staying on the welfare system. they are NOT getting educated, they are not learning a trade skill, they are NOT productive and thus are not able to EARN, see that word, EARN enough money to make a living.

no free hand outs have proven to NOT work. that is one reason the USSR failed. FREE HAND OUTS.

I'm fine with capitalism. I'm just not fine with Milton Freidman unrestrained capitalism that values gdp growth over overall standard of living. The problem with unrestrained capitalism is that the rising tide doesn't lift all boats, it drowns the poor and stratifies wealth absurdly towards the top range.

Because it's been underfunded forever. It's not rocket science. Free handouts keep people 'down' when they are stigmatised and judges as failures by people who have largely simply had more fortunate circumstances in their lives. The sad reality is that it's largely *luck* that determines who is poor and who isn't in America. It's rarely, if ever, merit.

Sorry, but you're not better than someone on welfare because you work. You've largely just been more fortunate, probably since being born into a better socio-economic class.

Being born on second base and thinking you hit a double is a dangerous thing.

Edit: Largely.
