New minumum wage questionFollow

I'm curious - since a lot of states are adopting new minimum wage requirements (especially my home state of pennsylvania - from 5.15/hr to 7.15/hr), every article I've found seems to only describe hourly wages for non-tipped workers.

Does anyone have any idea if the minimum wage for servers is increasing as well? I'm considering getting a job at a new 5-star restraunt that just opened as a food runner (a friend knows the hiring manager, and the runners regularly bring home 3-500$ from tips a night), and despite the good income, it'd be nice if my hourly wage would be going up as well. 2.13 an hour is nice and all, but hey, I'll take every cent I can get.

It's ussually 2/3rds of the hourly, or in some states it's the same.

I'm sure your state Department of Employment or whatever has a page that will tell you.

Thanks for the advice! I just checked out the website and found it in their FAQ - it's staying at the same level rate, but its been amended so that if your hourly earnings plus tip don't equate to the state minimum wage for the time worked, the employer is legally bound to compensate for the difference. Interesting stuff.

Thanks for the help again!

You mean my paychecks will actually be worth more than the paper they're printed on? Huzzah!

Nope. Prices will go up to cancel most of the wage increase :/. (labor costs go up so people have to charge more for products and services to break even, and people know they can charge more because people have more money). Sadly bumping up minimum wage won't increase *spending power* of the average worker much. That being said, I see it as a good thing.

Not worth it. If your intelligent enough that you could go to college and make it you should:

1. Save the money you would spend on college, use it to put a down payment on a home.

2. Buy a computer.

3. Teach yourself how to do stuff. Lot's of stuff.

4. Market yourself as a Multi-Tasker or Generalist.

5. Accept offered job, and manage people w/degrees that can't find anything in thier field.

Hooray, somebody can use force to tell somebody else what amount they can "voluntarily" trade something for something else for. How about the Minimum Tip Act? Any tip less than 20% shall result in 30 days in prison. Yeah? What's the difference?

What do you know about it, Git? As a Mexican busboy in a Jewish restuarant you aren't eligible for tips anyways. You're lucky to get the leftover bagels and lox at the close of shift, dude.

Never, ever, happened once in the history of minimum wage increases.

Good fairy tale that suckers believe and then vote Republican though. Naturally without taking thirty seconds to find out it's false, because that might take effort.

Pffft, losers, if authorization exists for $7.50 an hour, then authorization exists for $75/hour. As long as you "say" so <wink>, commie-un-american ba$tard. Use the force, Rapists.

Edit: Oh, I'm sorry, do we need a ballot initiative to define Rape the same way we define Race, ala MI 2006? No "sperm diversity" defense?

Y'all are trying awful hard as a propganda machine that ostensibly posseses power.

Grid+Lock+&Load.

Maybe you and Git should spend less time on the asylum and more time in school.

There is an interesting aspect to union contracts that stipulates the members will receive $XX.XX an hour or X times the prevailing minimum wage. Flush the new minimum wage as the price of paper just went up.

As for tipped employees the thought is that as the menu prices increase the 15% gratuity will automatically follow so "you'll get it in the end". Also, expect tax increases from 8% of total sales as that is usually what the daily tax is based on.

I'm hoping everyone feels special with the new increase. I swear the door greater job at Wal-Mart is looking better every day.
