Is going so far to the left, it's hard to keep up with his head spinning. I'm waiting for him to advocate a $12 minnimum wage and national health care.

Nah, he's ideal.

Plus with Ortega back in power, it'll be just like old times.

I caught a little of it in the car. His comment that the Democrats were just as committed to fighting terror left me wondering to laugh at him or feel sorry that he had to pander so quickly.

Also, was it just me or did Bush have two stories about Rumsfeld? The first time he was asked why he was saying "Rumsfeld is here for the duration" on Monday, Bush said it was because he didn't want the choice to affect the elections. Then when a reporter asked if Bush had hid his decision, Bush started saying he didn't know Rumsfeld was leaving until yesterday. I was busy ordering lunch so I might have heard it sketchy.

I had the same impression. At first he said that he didn't want to affect the elections and that he had to tell the reporters something so he denied it.

Later on he acted like he didn't know for sure about Rummy until yesterday.

It's just a speech, but.

It really seems like he's actually decided the election was the will of the people and he's moved way way to the left.

Think his dad instead of his first 6 years. It's really an amazing transformation.

As much contempt as I've had for him, he's got to be shocked and awedTM by the turn of events, and if it serves to widen his perspective, then it's worth it.

The guy is a weasel.

This isn't the first time he has received a political bloody nose and done the whole 'concilliatory reach around lets work together, I'm a moderate" routine.

It's the first time he wasn't running for something afterwards. Which means Rove's influence is diminished and whatever Bush has been saying thinking "this is ********* but Karl says it wins us elections" is out the window.

Most of those political defeats and apologies came after 2004.

Learn how to win something.

It's really ok. Bush isn't really "evil". He's really moving to the left because he's starting to think about how he'll be remembered in history and has a chance to accomplish things now that he couldn't when he had to play to his base.

I'm going to hold off on lauding his epiphany until I actually see him try to deal with the Democratic Congress.

On one hand, maybe this was the proverbial slap he needed to be aware that people just weren't agreeing with him and that there were consequences. I don't think it's too far off the mark to say that Bush screwed over a Republican majority in the House and most probably the Senate.

On the other hand, Bush has spent too much time saying "Look, I KNOW what I'm doing!" and acting upon that mindset for me to believe a sudden reversal of heart. Like Smash said (I think it was Smash), his concern now is his legacy and right now his legacy is losing the Republican majority and one hell of a fucked up war.

After the whole Katrina debacle, are you telling me you're surprised by this?

"Rummy, you're doin' a heck of a job!" = Rummy is history.

For a man so sure that history would prove him right and who showed absolutely no desire to be concilliatory for a large period of his presidency to suddenly turn the leaf the day after his thumpin' probably has less do with some noble desire to be viewed as a uniter and diplomat strikes me as bullsh'it.

The guy is a weasel who doesn't want to spend his last two years in office having to ask the democrats for permission everytime he wants to do something.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how gbaji tries to spin Bush's speech when I awake from my nap.

I'm thinking this election will help me break 1000 post, before the new year.

Listened to part of his speech in the car and I couldnt get over how lefty he was sounding. Way too much of a reversal from his usual stances and just one day after elections. I have to agree with Bhod. I cant see him changing his tunes because he had a change of heart after seeing that the people were not happy with the gov so soon. And Rumsfeld "resigning" was a nice touch, offering a sacrifice to the people.

I dont think he has much of a choice anymore in how he will be dealing with the gov, but to think this was an actual wake up call to him doesnt jive.
