Apparantly the Colorado citizens have spoken. There were 2 different referendums regarding gay relationships. One was to make marriage only definable as between a man and a woman. That one looks to pass with a near 57% majority. The other was to allow domestic partnerships between same sex, more or less giving them the same rights as married couples. That one looks to fail with a 55% against. I guess the gay folk aren't welcome here.

The other issue up for vote would have made possessing up to an ounce of pot legal. That one looks to fail miserably, with nearly 65% against it.

I have to say I'm a bit suprised. And a bit disappointed, at least in regards to the gay marriage/partnerships issues. I thought Colorado was a bit more progressive than that.

As for Congress, my district was projected to be a close one and they weren't kidding. They even had Bush come out the other day in support of the Republican candidate. Right not there is a difference of 21 votes with the Democrat in the lead. Overall, only 2 of 7 elections are going to Republicans. Also, the Democrat candidate looks to win the Governor's race.

Colorado fancies itself a conservative state, which is hilarious considering how much welfare ranchers and agribusiness get in the form of subsidies.

Oh, but they're mostly white, and either straight or closeted. So no stigma follows their welfare.

More importantly, the South Dakota ballot initative to outlaw all abortions was defeated. This was supposed to be the strike to challenge Roe v Wade in the Supreme Court.

Gay marriage referendums are the pinnacle of pointless political hackery. People will invariably vote against change that doesn't effect them. Gay marriage is a basic civil rights issue and will have to be decided by the courts. A tiny minority can't win change from a largely ignorant fearful majority in the US.

How do you find out how the votes turned out? Is there a site that has all the votes accounted for already?

Is Florida allowed on this site? Smiley: laugh

Yes, that was a pleasant surprise.

Apparently even in South Dakota no one was buying the "Abortions make women crazy" argument.

Yes, typically Colorado is conservative overall. That's why it's usually a Replublican dominated State. Also, many ranchers and farmers tend to vote Republican because usually they do better with Pubbies in office rather then Dems. My folks have spouted that for years.

Why is the "Average Joe" thinking about homos packing each other's fudge in the first place?

I'm thinking enlistment has put a bit of a cramp in that. For now, at least.

Actually, I used to be more of a Bible thumping Christian church boy when I was younger. It took me a while to accept the fact that me disagreeing with alot of what I was reading was ok. I remember I used to actually be afraid to disagree with anything.

I wouldn't cuss, listen to "world music", stopped celebrating Halloween indefinitly; the works. This was my middle school career, really. Hell, during 30 minute reading time, I'd read the bible!

As I grew up, though, I became alot more laid back. Started beleiving how I wanted to beleive, instead of how everyone else wanted me to beleive. I hated the judging that they would do. I still call myself Christian, but I have my own way of following it. (Still in love with the book you recomended to me a year ago, DSD. It's the one religeous book I can so easily connect with.)

I'm not sure, but almost every thread I can think of in the Asylum that has a section devoted to gay marriage has some mention of ***** and/or Hitler, be it serious or in jest.....

Or that could just be most threads in the Asylum. Carry on.
