Al-Moussawi said Saddam would be hanged if the sentence were upheld, despite his demand that he be shot by a firing squad.

He is a happy fellow, is he not?

Justice defeats dictatorship. Iraqis love freedom.

The insurgency will stop now, right?

I bet my left nut that this isn't gonna be the last thread made here about this.

Later, his lawyer said the former dictator had called on Iraqis to reject sectarian violence and refrain from revenge against U.S. forces.

that's interesting.

I think many people see hanging as a lower form of death, used on criminals who were commoners. Also, hanging can be a long lasting death, if the neck isnt snapped. I know in the medievil days, traitors of higher rank were given the "courtesy" of having their heads chopped off, and later on, it would be a bullet. It may be that Saddam is looking at it in the same light. Death by firing squad would be more dignified in his eye than the lower form of hanging.

Meh. I think that people already know how they're going to vote, if they're planning to vote at all.

It was a foregone conclusion that Saddam would be found guilty and sentenced to death. But the verdict doesn't really change anything about our current involvement in Iraq except to perhaps incite more attacks in the next few days. But, as for Saddam, does it matter whether he's hanging from the gallows or sitting in a prison?

No way. I'm voting against Kennedy for Senate now. That "unopposed" fellow is quite the orator.

Oh sorry, wait there is a guy running against him I guess. Polling at almost 1%.

I'm sure that the combination of Kerry's remarks and Lieberman's powerful Zionism nearby in Connecticut will lead to a victory for the next senator of the Commonwealth, Ken Chase!

Really, though, I'm not voting this year. If there was a Democrat in my district who wasn't leading by 20 points in all the polling I would, but there's not. Massachusetts is so polarized at this point that the people who rioted over forced busing in the 60s are about to overwhelming put a black dude from Chicago in the governors office.

I might voulenteer to stand around my polling place in a che tee shirt tho.

You know, do my part and all that.

I pretty much just vote because of the local referenda. Everything else on the ballot is pretty much a lock.

They were also given the courtesy of "poor aim" on the part of headsman in many cases, unless of course they could pay a large enough sum.

Yay!

Wonder if he will make it. Not to surprised myself, for the way we are. But we'll just have to see if he lives to the final date or if catches a early death. In-cell suicide, mishap while shaving, odd heart attack... anything could happen between now and the death day. His loyal headhunters could storm the prison, free him and then ride into the sunset to live with Bin laden on Martha's Vinyard. Or Maybe he is one of those types that would rather take his own life, rather then let others get one over on him.

Do you think the anti-death penilty hippies will hold a candle light vigile for him...... Selfrightous Suicide.

edit: typos, left some too, to defeat myself. 8P

I couldn't agree more. All this gloating and rejoicing over killing this guy is so childish. It's not going to make an iota of a difference, either in Iraq, or in the US. How many people are seriously going to think "Well I wasn't gonna vote before, but now they're hanging Saddam I really feel the Republicans are a great choice. Tough on crime, tough on the (ex-)causes of crime."

It's cathartic for some Iraqis, I guess. So that's ok. But apart from that, it's just theatre.
