I really loved Rome. But I'm thinking I'm going to be cancelling HBO for now. When/if they ever do season 2 of Rome, I'll get it again. Or Big Love. I'll get it again for that.

I heard Rome season 2 will be out in summer of 2007, but who knows for sure.

I had heard it's actually in production, so summer seems about right. I'm glad they took a couple years to let the kid who plays Octavian mature a bit. Not that I didn't adore him as a creepy-precocious teen, but for his rise to power as Emperor Augustus (which is what I imagine the next season will be covering) he needs to be a bit older.

Can't imagine the show without Niobi, though--Vorenus is gonna be a very DARK character from now on, I think.

isn't deadwood still coming back for like a half season?

I saw it this week-end, and it was funny, slightly cringing at times, and completely stupid. It's very much like the show.

The people he makes fun of are easy targets, but it's still amusing. It's not too long and doesn't take itself seriously. Though some of the scenes, especially the final one, must have been staged. Others, like his singing in the rodeo park, must've been genuinely scary.

One could say it was a great showcase for Euro-Asian arthouse cinema, a great journey into cultural understanding and the meaning of an ever-shrinking multicultural world. One could also see it as a metaphor for the protracted relationship between Kazakhstan, Russia, and Europe. One could easily interpret the naked wrestling between Borat and his producer in the hotel room as an allegory for the struggle of the Kazahk people in the face of Russia imperialism in the post-Soviet world.

But they'd be wrong.

Borat is more like a guilty McDonalds. It feels great on the spur of the moment, but leaves you feeling slightly empty.

So if you have a joint or three before going and don't expect too much, you shouldn't be disapointed.

One of the funniest movies. It's not exceptionally witty but it'll make you laugh. Go see it.

&*(#$( I have the last two episodes of Rome saved on our TiVo until next year when the season approaches and now I read spoilers. *sob*

We went to Borat yesterday and although I did crack up a lot, it just wasn't my kind of movie. And I certainly could have done without the fat hairy guy ************* the fat hairy guy ********, and the fat hairy guy *******. My eyeballs are still burning.

S'ok.. I should just watch them already. Or maybe buy the DVDs for hubby for Xmas. When the season ended Mr. Pikko watched them without me and then screeched when he checked the forums and found out a new season wasn't scheduled until over a year later.

Thank you for cutting one of the movie possibilities for me for the weekend. I can wait for the dvd for that kind of action, the big screen would just be too much...hair...

Truly one of the most random movie's I've seen in a while. I -so- didn't expect half of the crap that poped on the screen.

Like his son's pictures, for instance. Smiley: yikesSmiley: laugh

Well, I call it a screech. According to him, he "yelped in a manly fashion" or something.

He screeches when our son pees all over him.

Speaking of which, did you hear the one about the frat boys pleading entrapment?

Quote:
The legal action filed Thursday on their behalf claims they were duped into appearing in the spoof documentary "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," in which they made racist and sexist comments on camera.

The young men "engaged in behavior that they otherwise would not have engaged in," the lawsuit says.

Well, I'm sure that's perfectly true. Usually they sip lemonade and discuss Yeats.

Quote:
The plaintiffs were not named in the lawsuit "to protect themselves from any additional and unnecessary embarrassment." They were identified in the movie as fraternity members from a South Carolina university, and appeared drunk as they made insulting comments about women and minorities to Cohen's character.

Completely out of character, I assure you.

Quote:
"They were induced to agree to participate and were told the name of the fraternity and the name of their school wouldn't be used," said the plaintiffs' attorney, Olivier Taillieu.

Because racism and grade-school prurience are only funny when you're anonymous, or surrounded by your equally devolved homes, yo.

Gosh, they never would have behaved like complete fuCking apes if they thought they'd get caught! By all means, give them some money.

In the realm of real movies, I saw "The Departed" last night (for my birthday). Excellent, quality film. At least, for those of you who can stand blatant, graphic violence - it is a Scorcese flick after all. One of his best, many are saying.

I'm looking forward to seeing that one. We rented X-Men 3 last night. It was "ok" at best, though I'm sure everyone else on here saw it ages ago.

Just go see it 'live', even if its by yourself in the middle of the week, like on a Tuesday. It's one of those culturally-circumscribing movies even the parents' will reference. What? You want Leonardo in Titanic II instead? :P

Edit: Imagine seeing Airplane live in the theatre when it first came out. Must see movie. Stock.

I agree, it was brilliant.

If it's in your videostore, the original version called "Infernal Affairs" is awesome too. It's absolutely brilliant, easily as good as the American version...
