US Vice-President **** Cheney has said that insurgents in Iraq have increased their attacks in order to influence the upcoming US mid-term elections.
He blamed a recent rise in violence on al-Qaeda and others trying to "break the will of the American people".

"They're very sensitive to the fact that we've got an election scheduled," he said, claiming the militants monitor US public opinion via the internet.

Seems stoopid comments are the order of the day.

Is he implying that the Iraqis are trying to get the democrats elected? Or is he implying that the Iraqis are more concerned with the mid-terms, than they are with ejecting the occupying forces?

Or, is it a bit of 'double-speak', meant to convey into the minds of the american voters that a vote for the Dems is a vote for the insurgents, and therefore a vote against the military folk, and therefore treasonous?
Or is he flailing around in the cess-pool of his mind, looking for yet more excuses to explain why the 'insurgency', who are after all, as he said in June '05 "in their last throes" are still not only there, but are in fact becoming stronger?
After all, it can't be Ramadan, 'cos thats over and there isn't an Iraqi election on atm.

Im a bit surprised that he didn't blame it on the Iranians, who after all, do have access to the internet too, and must be aware that the US is having an election.

I think he's making the very obvious and logical connection that Democrats are largely running this election on the "failure in Iraq" platform. Democrats are also associated (whether fairly or not) with the idea of withdrawing our forces from Iraq and just letting the chips fall where they may.

If you are an insurgent and you *want* the US to withdraw with the hope that this will allow your faction/group to gain power in Iraq, it would certainly be in your interest to increase activity right now so as to strengthen the "Iraq is a quagmire" argument, and perhaps get Democrats in power who might carry out that withdrawal and give you a better shot at achieving your objectives.

I'm not saying that Dems would do what the terrorists want, or that one is in any way tied to the other. However, the *perception* of that connection has been made time and time again on the various news and talk shows. And, as you pointed out, they watch cable too...

I think at this point, they're way past wanting to influence our elections. Seems to me that they're more concerned with killing each other.

So you're not saying anything at all then, as ussual. Check.

It's fascinating how every single post you've ever made is entirely deviod of any actual content.

I'm not saying that you never post anything of value, but there is the perception that you're a drooling simpleton who spews out whatever the current GOP party line is about any issue blindly without ever understanding it and while the entire time qualifying it to such a ludicrous degree that it becomes meaningless to bother even reading your posts.

That's what I'm not saying.

We had this exact same discussion in November 2004. AKA "who do the terrorists want you to vote for" or "who do the terrorists want you to think they want you to vote for" or "who does the opposing party want you to think the terrorists want you to think they want you to vote for."

yawn

There were two other paragraphs in that post genius...

I was simply heading off the inevitable "OMG gbaji's trying to say that the Dems are helping the terrorists!!!". Apparently, no amount of clarification can prevent some posters here from still somehow managing to find a way to utterly miss the point.

Could you point out the one that says anything for me?

Perhaps I'm just missing the content rich thought prevoking part.

I'm just glad to see ethnocentric views of current events are alive and well.

"Hey guys, I heard Jean Hay Bright needed a bit of help in Maine! How about we kill 20 more civilains today, you know, just to help the guy out? Like, swing voters and all that? Mahmed, you up for suiciding yourself for Jeah Hay?"
