Ive had this discussion with others before, and Im sure we've had it here too but thought Id drudge it up again in light of the holiday season. A question was posed on the radio the other day on when is it too old to trick or treat? Is the tradition of gathering candy as youre dressed up only for young kids? Do you wince when you see older kids walk up to your house at night dressed up looking for sweets?
My own personal thought is that if you have taken the time to create a cool costume and can walk out from house to house, usually up here in the driving rain, then you deserve a piece of candy. Maybe once youve hit the older age in the teens enough might be enough, but generally I dont mind passing out sweets if you are actually noticably participating. What I do take offense to, is the older kids who come out and dont even bother trying to dress up. I have been known to question a person obviously lacking in costume what theyre supposed to be and have also been known to tell those older kids who show up in jeans and a shirt to come back when theyve finished putting their costume on.
Does anyone else have guidelines?
Also, for you parents going out with your little ones, so you also take the time to dress up or just think of it as a kids holiday and leave it at that?
