I've been getting into all sorts lately...
Some highlights wich may appeal to someone with a open mind, who is a bit sick of the same ol', same ol' of western music styles.....
Toumani Diabaté From Mali. He plays a
Kora. Cheikh Lo from Senegal, very cool guitarist.
Ali Farka Touré particularly check out
Talking Timbuktu with Ry Cooder, and his new one,
Savane.
Oumou Sangaré Also from Mali. Lurvly..!
NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN. A pakistani devotional singer. his voice never fails to send shivers up ya spine. Particularly keep an eye out for stuff thats been remixed by western studios. Cannot reccomend this guy enough. Sublime.
Loads of good stuff from Cuba too. Start with the
Buena Vista Social Club (produced by Ry Cooder) and go from there....
Wont bore you with the rest of what I'm into 'cos most of it would be near impossible to find anymore. Unless you like to trawl thru specialist record shops that is......
