A whole 50 people attended the protest in front of the White House yesterday.

thats because people dont understant the implications or dont care because it doesnt affect them directly.
remember the bill passed during the california wildfires giving controll of state owned land back to individual states and limiting the say of individuals on how to manage that land?
no one gave it a second thought. sold to the masses as a tool to allow individual states, like california, manage their forests better so they can thin them to prevent fires from getting so hot.
flash forward a couple years and you have state politicians taking privately owned land from individuals and selling them to for profit developers and leaving the home owner and every one else without any recourse.
and when that crap hit the national media fan, the right deftly pointed at the supreme court for allowing it to happen, when it was this bill that created the rule of law permitting it. people STILL want to punnish the courts for something the right wing legislatures did.
yes, as a group we are that stupid, and as a group, they are smart enough to take advantage of our stupidity.
this new bill allows the federal government to violate the geneva convention, and our own constitution without recourse. it also absolves this addministraition for any of those violations in the past, meaning only the grunts currently in prison for following orders will be the only ones to ever see the inside of a prison.
a federal cop, fbi, cia, can pick you up off the street, and hold ANYONE indefinatly without allowing you a phone call, acess to a lawyer, or even a chance in court to defend yourself legally. and if it turns out to be a mistake? too bad. like the guy in canada we kidnapped, whisked away to syeria, "aggressivly interrorgated" for 2 years, and released....to bad. no recourse. our bad, sorry, the law says we can so we did nothing wrong.
people are stupid.
they can justify torture when it is sold to them as a tool to get people out to kill you to tell them stuff to save even more lives.
what it ends up being is just like it ends up in dictatorships. you torture 100 people, mabe 5 of them were actually bad guys, and "mabe" one of them actually gives you something usefull. the other 95? our bad, so sorry. its legal soooo tuff luck.
eventually, you have federal cops pulling anyone they are suspicious of and doing whatever they want to them, proof, or no proof.
just like Saddam Hussin, Adolf Hitler, and every other pissant dictator who ever lived.
the end does not justify the means. the constitution was written to not only protect this country from foreign govenments, but to protect its people from our own government. immaging this law in effect during Martin Luther Kings march for freedom and equality. he would have dissappeared and every one like him and held, just like Nelson Mandella in africa was, and the changes he inspired would have never happened.
laws are double edged swords. they cut both ways. you give up rights to oleaders so they can "protect" you from foreigners.....whos gona protect you from them? you think they are going to give up those laws to be "fair" to you? some corperate rival slips some terrorist propaganda onto a competitors computer, whispers in the ear of some politician, and viola, he dissappears without recoarse untill they decide to let him go.
50 people showed up because the masses are stupid. the california wildfire bill passed because people are stupid. "trust us, we wouldnt use it against you...."
NEVER give up your rights to ANY government. history is full of reasons why. ignore them at your own peril.
