Yeah, so is life. Guess we better kill everyone quick before they get hurt.

To be fair, I'm sure if you assured this school that no overprotective parent was going to sue the school should their rambunctious, hyperactive darling acquire a bump on the noggin during recess, they'd happily allow the kids to continue playing tag.

When I was in grade school I broke my leg, arm, took all of the skin off the top of my head (still have a big scar from that one), dislocated my hip, and dislocated my jaw...all during recess. I didn't sue or anything. I played tough sports and that stuff was just part of the game. They tried to make things safe..like putting padding under the Monkey bars but the mentaly handy-capped kid in our class ripped a piece off and almost choked to death swallowing it. good job school system. blame it on the sue happy idiot parents of the 80s and 90s who refused to take responsibility for their childrens actions and blamed it on everyone but themself.

this is part of that climat. it is also why so many things like medical expenses are so high, why getting car insurance is outragious for the young and unmarried. blame it on the fools and the courts who awared the big bucks to idiots like the McD. coffee lady.

As a parent, I think this is silly. Kids get hurt. It's *good* for them to get hurt. Toughen them up, teach them a few lessons on cause and effect. i.e., if you jump head first off the monkey bars, you will hurt your head..

And bob forbid any of these kids get outside and get some exercise. Smiley: oyvey

Britain's First "Web-Rage" Attack
from the why-can't-people-just-get-along dept.

"The BBC is reporting what is claimed to be Britain's first "web-rage" attack. A man drove seventy miles to assault his victim with a pick-axe handle after they exchanged insults in a Yahoo! chat room."
From the article:
"Det Cons Christopher Creagh, of the Metropolitan Police, said: 'This is the first instance of a web-rage attack.' Det Sgt Jean-Marc Bazzoni, of Essex Police, added the case demonstrates the importance of protecting one's identity on the internet. 'Mr Jones had posted pictures of his family on the web and had chatted to Gibbons on an audio link,' he said. 'It demonstrates how easily other users can put two and two together and also shows how children could also find themselves in danger.'"

...That's next.

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

Life is a fatal condition.

The funny part is that they'll bann any form of game that might make the kids sweat at little, and in an acticle after that get dumbfounded at how so many kids are obese.

"My kid is breathing through a respirator now, but at least he won't scrap his knee during recess!", said the proud parent to the baffled reporter.

People who blame the McDonald's coffee case for things make the baby Jesus cry at the state of American feeble-mindedness.

What I loved was the comment from one of the mums in favour of the ban:

Quote:
I've witnessed enough near collisions.

Near-collisions?? On a playground with kids running around??

Someone call the FBI...

I am an athletic director for a Private School in FL. I guess I am a bit biased on the topic, but man, when kids get hurt, I just tell them to get up and get going. They normally will just go with it and keep on playing. It's not that I don't have sympathy for them, but the less attention you put on them getting hurt, the less it seems that they will.

I have seen some pretty bad accidents in the 2 years I have been doing this, including myself. I have seen a kid break his wrist twice, I dislocated my own knee playing soccer with them, and multiple times a student on student head on collision. We don't have crazy parents at the school I work out (but do have some hot ones).

I think it is just unreal that people are that paranoid about their kids getting hurt. The more they get hurt, the more they toughen up their bodies and get used to injuries. Thats a big part of life.

Like Nan said, if you jump head first from the monkey bars, you WILL get hurt. I had a student find that out the hard way. I just asked him if he was okay, he said maybe. I just laughed and said, if you are going to jump off head first, its going to hurt. He nodded and moved on.

Glad I work at a Private School.

I always thought the mcdonalds coffee lady had a good case, but that too much money was awarded to one person for it. McDonalds serves its coffee and tea at a much hotter temperature than normal restaurants or from a normal coffee maker. And they serve it in very cheap flimsy cups, and look at you crossed eyed if you ask for a second cup to strengthen the first. The flimsy cups are part of their negligence because the normal pressure one applies to cup causes the the contents to spill over the top and burn your hand. Happened to me. However, I do not think the lady deserved anywhere near that amount, and it probably should have been a class action suit with that money distributed amonst all the coffee burn victims. That Shit was hot when it burned my hand, I think I should get a couplew grand compensation for it, but not millions.

The basic idea is that the lawsuits hit the negligent corp in the pocket book and therefore they clean up the negligence to avoid further hits. For this to work, the hit from the lawsuit has to cost more than cleaning up the negligence. If it does not, then its just cheaper for the bastards to pay out lawsuit costs rahter than to prevent further harm (like that famous automaker memo). I suppose if the lady had gotten the 15 grand she probably deserved for her injuries, McDs would not have started using stronger cups and lowered the temp of thier standard coffee maker settings. The law really should make punitive damages go into an unkown victims funds for further victims rather than to that person who sues.
