Yep, it's snowing in Colorado and projected to snow in the mountains most of the week. I've been watching it go outside my office window all day, and the grin on my face couldn't possibly be larger. My snowboard stuff has been pulled out of the closet, and my beat up old board is ready for it's last few days of use before I break down and buy new stuff. One of the slopes has 2 runs open today, maybe they'll open another 2 by this weekend if all goes well. Regardless, I'll be driving up Saturday morning.

I <3 snow.
Smiley: grin

So Buffalo and other points west of New York got upwards of two feet of snow. It's still in the 50 degree range here, but rained all day. I can't wait though; I love the white fluffy stuff! I may even try skiing again some time.

I lived in Buffalo for 9 months. It snowed in 7 of them. At one point it snowed on 40 consecutive days. Drifts large enough to bury houses were not uncommon. We had over six feet of snow in one weekend. The roads were cleared and school was not canceled on Monday.

Lake effect snow is insane.

Is it true that they don't bother clearing most of the snow at one point and just carve tunnels and canyons for the sidewalks and roads?

Hell, I'd do it if the pay was decent. Shoveling snow is a great workout.

Hitting a person with a shovel and dragging their body to a secluded area is an even better workout. Just sayin...

Oddly enough, that's not far off. Change the light blue skin for a pasty white hue and swap the polar bear slippers to Scooby Doo.

I'm hoping we'll have that much accumulated by this weekend.

In the two and a half weeks I've been in Oregon it's rained only a handful of days and has been predominantly sunny and warm. I managed to get a little sunburn last thursday when I took a daytrip to the coast. Can't say I like snow, and I hope things are warmer in Colorado when I return next monday, but that's not going to happen because Halloween is near and it's got to be arctic and heavy jacket weather on the one night I might get to legally see the little neighborhood girls dressed as princesses. Fooey.

The little neighborhood girls still go by your house? You lucky *******, they started avoiding mine long ago.

Well. Insisting that they had to provide a "trick" before getting a treat may have had something to do with it. And the new laws requiring you to register as well...

Oh no, not my house. I usually set up shop on someone else's porch downtown. Come down to the Springs and we can make a night of it, after all, everyone needs a look-out.

It's still in the 80's here. I hate Texas! I'd kill for it to snow. Real snow, not that ice crystal freeze wet **** we get, I want to see real dry white powder snow.

Actually this is more proof of it than anything. It's the average world temperature over the year that matters. When it gets really cold it doesn't snow as much. Lakes are warmer than the air because they were holding a lot more heat than usual (hot summer), you get more evaporation, which means more humidity, more precipitation (more snow). Of course it can be argued the other way as well.

Then you can get into air currents etc. and how higher global temperatures make certain areas colder and certain ones hotter. It goes on and on.

The part I'm concerned about is the poles, more ice melting every year, means less light reflected back into space (snow is white, it reflects light, water absorbs it. Like a white car compared to a black car in the summer), slowly heating the planet more each year. Till there's no more ice and half the continent is under water. */em cue doomsday music*

Paulsol is wrong. Yodabunny is basically right. I've taken the liberty of deleting the somewhat misleading parts and leaving the right parts.
