Yes I know the power is out, but I called her anyway and left her a message that we were thinking about her and hope she's ok. If I hear from her before she can get in and post, I will let you know.

Most people I've spoken to over there say the large island had power soonest, it was the furthest that was still down. I have no idea where Pikko is. I just hope she and hers are all doing ok. I'm terrorfied of Earth Quakes, one of the main reasons I wont go to Cali if I can help it.

PS.

To my adoring camper, SUCK MY BALLS.

That is all.

That always cracks me up. We have a major earthquake every ...what, twenty years or less? The rest of the country has tornados, blizzards, hurricanes, floods, thunderstorms, hail, etc. every year, everywhere. We get sunshine and perfect weather. A house that falls you still falls on you the same if it's caused by an earthquake or a tornado. Hell, at least an earthquack doesn't suck up you up and drop your *** several football fields away with your head inbedded in a tree.

We *finally* have power again! Woo!!

I got woken up by the quake this morning and the entire house was shaking. I've been in quakes before because I grew up on the Big Island where we have earthquakes from the Kilauea volcano, but it was still pretty big. I live on Oahu and while we were like 150 miles away from the quake we had our power restored last. All the neighbor islands had power back much quicker because they are on smaller systems while the Oahu system apparently takes 10-14 hours to come back online.

When it happened it was more scary to learn that there was no power in the entire state. There were no radio stations and no news whatsoever. We could only catch two stations. One was playing a recording of a talk radio show from like 2004 and the other was playing Hawaiian music but no one was there to talk. Finally about an hour after the quake two of the Clear Channel stations were able to get their generators up and everyone listened to them for news. All day they took calls from people reporting things.

We packed up and went to the inlaws as is our plan in case of emergencies, though we didn't take any of our supplies because hubby thought it wasn't necessary yet. The stores were packed as people rushed to buy things and at some stores only 4 people were allowed in at once.

No power apparently means my brain gets fried. When DF called me up my voicemail connection wasn't so good so I was like, "Who the heck is Deah?" They'd been telling people to stay off the phones so I didn't call her back until much later when electricity started coming back on. While I was talking to her I was like, "Who is this?" She was like, "This is your boss, Deah!!!" I figured it was her, but I was thinking, ok I swear she has a different first name, who in the world am I talking to? It was only after I hung up that I realized she was saying her name was "DF" instead of her real name. UH-DUH. So yeah, that's why I sounded like such an airhead.

Buddy boy looked kinda shocked but I think my daughter slept right through it. Everything's fine, nothing in the house is broken or anything. And most important of all, my breast milk stock is still frozen. I was freaking out over it all day and thankfully not opening the freezer even once kept it rock hard until the power came back on.

Yea, the worst part about today was that window in time where the power went out and there was no news whatsoever on the radio. We got information on the earthquake from my sister on the mainland before we got any verification here.

I got in touch with a friend of mine here and we were joking that it was a north korean nuke attack and the EMP from the explosion wiped out the power - except for our cell phones of course. LOL.

I'm glad to hear that all of you are ok.

See Git, a tornado you can prepare for and run from. Storm shelters FTW. Earthquakes just kind of happen.

It may have helped if her every word didn't take 5 min. Smiley: grin
