Please PM me to let me know. My husband is salivating over the recent addition of the Series 3 to the TiVo rewards store but we need a few referrals to have enough points to get one. All you'd need to do is put his email in the referral spot when you activate your TiVo account. Thank you much!

tivo is going the way of the 8-track. will be totally irevelant in a few years.

why?

because tv manufacturers, like toshiba, are integrating a hard drive built into TV sets. they have been out in asia and japan for over a year. so far, they have been blocked from being sold here in the U.S., mostly by recorder companies and probably tivo and realplay too.

why?

because who is going to pay a monthly fee for something they get for free by buying a tv with a built in hard drive. so you can expect alot more "discounts" form tivo and realplay in the months to come as more and more of these units with built in hard drives get more wide spread. kind of like the price if portable cd players did when mp3 hit the stage.

Lie. They are available in the US, just go to best buy and see. Companys like Tivo wouldnt have the pull to stop electronics from being imported you stupid shit.

Actually, I prefer to keep most of my electronics in seperate units, thhat way when one of them dies I dont have my whole entertainment system go down.

Plus, all of my Tivos have been modded out with 100+gig HDs. Can you do that with your all powerful tv?

In short, I want to rip your head off, defile your neckhole, then throw your head down a hill and have it knock your mothers cnut off. die.

We have a modded TiVo too, with the now unavailable and invaluable lifetime subscription. The difference between a regular DVR and a TiVo is that TiVo subscribers are usually huge fans of the service. TiVo fans get fanatical about it and go around recruiting people to get one. Heck, it was even in a Law & Order intro, "You should really look into that TiVo thing. It'll change your life."

I love how TiVo is letting people who buy a certain TiVo transfer their lifetime subscriptions to their new TiVo as long as their old one can still dial in, with the old one being good for an extra year.

My homebuilt DVR is down at the moment. The SLI setup blocks all the other PCI slots on the motherboard. I did find a dual tuner PCI-express 1x card, but it doesn't have the RCA outputs of the hauppage cards I like to use. I'm hopeing hauppage will release a pci express variant soon, but they tend to take their time.

How Do I Transfer My TiVo Service to a New DVR?
25-10-44 Search Reference Number

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can transfer any service agreement to another TiVo DVR of any make or model at any time. (For Product Lifetime Service transfer policies, see below.) Just go to Manage My Account. After you log in to Manage My Account, select Change service number from the left navigation bar, and follow the on-screen prompts.

Rebates offered with the purchase of a new or refurbished TiVo DVR apply only to new activations. You will not receive a rebate if you transfer service.

You can transfer Product Lifetime Service to another DVR only if:

You activated the DVR less than 30 days ago.

The DVR was exchanged under warranty, either through the retailer or the manufacturer.

The DVR was activated under an incorrect service number.

If any of these conditions apply, you can transfer Product Lifetime Service through Manage My Account (following the instructions above), or by contacting Customer Support.

We've been using DVR systems for a year or so. With a capacity of around 100 hours or so, it went through a lot of use.

But using a media PC will probably be my next step. I like the flexibility it affords with TV-tuner cards, hard drives and CD/DVD burners. Hell, you can do it on laptopos now.

I believe the page you linked is an old reference because lifetime is no longer available and so it would be impossible to have activated a lifetime TiVo account less than 30 days ago.

The transfer of lifetime I was referring to was sent to my husband by e-mail last month and one of the requirements was that you can only transfer it to a Series 3 TiVo and only if your old TiVo can still dial in. This transfer service is only available until the end of the year IIRC.
