Quote:
Vatican theologians are leaning toward revising centuries-old teaching that babies who die without baptism go to limbo instead of heaven, officials said Friday.

"All of us have hope for the babies" that they will go to heaven, under the revised thinking on limbo, said the Rev. Luis Ladaria, a Jesuit who is secretary-general of the Vatican's International Theological Commission.

It's funny to me that everyone in this article talks as though the decision they make will actually affect the post-death fates of unchristened babies. Talk about hubris, bwah.

Making up rules like this looks like it would be a lot of fun. I should really think of becoming the next L. Ron Hubbard. Only I'd pick a better name than Scientology.

I was hoping this would be about cruise ship games in Purgatory.

Or the fate of such games. Then it could be "Limbo in Limbo in limbo".

Just another published theory. I'll let you all know what's what when I come back from the dead.

I'm fairly sure babies go to Taiwan when they die.

The article wrote:
Although Catholics have long believed that children who die without being baptized still have original sin and are thus excluded from heaven, the church has no formal doctrine on the matter, Vatican officials have noted.

Theologians have taught that such children enjoy an eternal state of perfect natural happiness, commonly called limbo.
Sounds pretty much like Heaven only with less seraphim to trip over.

Does that mean Calvinism is based on Calvin and Hobbes?

Oh yeah...well...well...I was hoping this was a thread about watching John Sayles' 1999 classic and surfing Kylie Minogue's fansite and playing said game while on a cruise ship in purgatory.

Limbo, LiMBO, limbo and limbo on the way to Limbo.

Winner!

Or that Darwinism is based based on Charles Darwin and his hilarious antics on the Galapagos Islands? Smiley: lol

"Theologians have taught that such children enjoy an eternal state of perfect natural happiness, commonly called limbo." --Chief Vatican angel counter, Department of Interpretive Dance, Sewing Division

Perhaps due to their age and infantile focus, Mary will be lactating for eternity? Either that, or St. Pete will be cleaning out the diaper pail forever. In my experience those are the only two times babies are perfectly happy.

Let the diety be named "Grief."

That way, whenever Charlie Brown says, "Good Grief!" we know he's actually praying...or taking the lord's name in vain...

The issue here, that hasn't been widely publicized, is that limbo is suffering from a massive case of overcrowding due mainly to population control in China. The idea is that space must be available for those who have really fucked up but don't truly deserve to be in hell. We can't have god-fearing christians being bumped just because some baby winds up in a dumpster, now can we?

The article, incorrectly, wrote:

Funny, but I thought Limbo was correctly the first circle of Hell, where the virtuous unbaptized and those who hadn't done any real good or evil went... then again, everything I know as far as Catholicism goes, I learned from this, so I'm roughly 700 years out of date. Smiley: dubious
