I wouldn't mind the site slowness and absence of new content if they hadn't, you know, promised such big things.

Is it really entitlement if you entitle yourself?

Do you have to be able to pluralize baby to be entitled?

My temporary fix before didn't go over so well, so we've been trying other things. Hard drive performance degredation for no apparent reason can blow me though.

Maybe some day I'll get some sleep!

It's probably worth mentioning that while we've had the worst useability problems we've had messages on every single page stating that we were in the middle of server maintenance.

We're transitioning servers right now. The entire site is running on a set of temporary servers while we pick up our existing servers and move them to a new ISP. Hopefully, in the end it will make the site a lot faster, but until is is done, there are bound to be some glitches.

Just a shame it was hidden in a thread with only 266 views and a title that sounds an awful lot like a rant (people often skip rants).

Please make your own threads from now on.

1) I might notice, if I could see a current page, or read any posts without waiting for 20 minutes.

2) You post in the Asylum?

I post things as I find them out myself. I'm always available by PM, and as always we try to keep official announcementd in the feedback forum so that we don't miss one in other forums and have people get mad at us when we forget to update it.

Danalog, nizdar, Illia, Rale have all been putting in very long hours on getting the new servers up and running. We're operating on all new servers, at a new ISP, and we are having growing pains. it is my understanding that the existing servers are yet to be integrated with the new ones, and I think, but am not 100% sure that they are still in transit. One of the other admins, feel free to correct that if I am missinformed. There have been issues with the new ISP that have been outside our control. Things like that are getting resolved, and I know you are all frustrated, but once things start getting back to normal everythign should improve substantially.

As to some of the other admins, Allakhazam, etc not posting in the forums as much, alot of that stems from the whole merger thing. There was alot of negativity directed at all the admins, especially Allakhazam over that. After the 6th or 7th time I myself got caught up in that mess I too was considering staying out of the forums. There was a hell of alot of sh*t flung from that.

At any rate, if there is anything specific you want to know, if i know the answer let me know and I'll try to fill you in.

And this is why I am a Kao fan for life. All you punk ******* that pick on him all the time can eat dirt and choke.

Direct, unapologetic, and detailed. This kicks the *** of the vague announcement posted by Teh Man himself ("glitches"-HA) and is exactly the tone and level of respectful intelligence I was looking for.

I won't be among those jumping ship. However, you'll get my paltry bucks AND my ****** rants.

Disclaimer for other admins: Nizdaar, quit yer whining. I barely remember who you are, most days, and I'm pretty sure Rale is some kind of legume. I know DF and Pikko are largely content so i don't hold them responsible, and Dana is not the wordiest fellow unless he's detailing how someone/something sucks, so this was nice.

As a fellow IT guy I can certainly sympathize with the admins. When the proverbial Shit hits the fan, if you stop to update someone on what's going on and what the status is every time someone calls (or in this case posts) you'd never get anything done.

That's crap.

Ok let me rephrase. If people were expecting an immediate response every time a complaint about the ongoing problems was posted then it would be right on. But since all people seem to be asking for here are periodic updates on a stickied/dedicated thread or location - your comment is complete *****************

It would be I suppose if you chose to just read that comment and not bother reading the rest. If you had, you would realize I agreed with the point that the admins should post an update. The point I was trying to make was what you described. Having worked in this field for quite a few years, I can tell you with a lot of experiences to back it, that stopping to explain the situation every time someone asks is counter-productive. Whether you chose to believe it or not is entirely up to you.

[quote]I just thought the IT pat "If I told you what was happening I couldn't fix it" statement was absurd. IT folks say this all the time, in the situation or in solidarity and often all it really means is "I don't know what the hell is going on, but I can't admit that." Or, more often, "I'm doing what I'm doing, and I don't really have to tell you shit so live with it until it works."

Your comments are complete bullocks.

Imagine you working at your job, whatever you do, and while you are plugging along at whatever project you are diligently working you are interrupted every 3-5 minutes with people popping their head in the door or calling you on your phone asking you what the status is. And every time they did that you had to give them a few minutes to respond as to where you were at. Can you guess at how fast your project would get done?

Well, golly gee whiz, that DOES happen. And I get my work done, and the updates done, AND post here.

It's called multitasking.
