Regardless what people say about the gay marriage debate, it has finally hit my doorstep. In about thirty-two days, I will be standing in the polling booth voting against a propsed state constitutional ban on gay marriage.

I really don't feel too strongly about the whole gay marriage issue at heart. Marriage is a broken institution and if gay people want to get married, they're just as fUcked up as the rest of the "normal" people. I am against this useless discriminatory ban being written into our state law yet again though (gay people already can't get married here, it's against the law).

So i've decided to devote some of my time and money to this PAC. It'll probably only be fifty or so dollars since i'm not a jillionaire, but I figure going door to door might just change some minds and help open the issue up to debate that otherwise might not have occured.

Anyone have input on this? Besides telling me to creatively use bleach, or how I should be sucking your balls? Maybe someone can offer me something that could get my foot in the door that supposed "training" might not offer?

No real advice but good luck anyway. I donated $20 last night towards the Democratic House of Rep elections which I'm sure put me on a hundred different phone and mailing lists. Plus, I never did get my $50 back from Kerry after he lost. WTF's up with that? Smiley: mad

Yeah.

How bloody refreshing to hear.

You're getting off your ***** exercising your democratic right, using the political process, reason and influence and taking practical, peaceful action that can make a difference.

Most people stay on their **** and whine, or think that marching with crappy placards will do it. (Or think 'car bombs for peace' makes sense)

I'm genuinely impressed.

Since the issue helps to motivate more people to get out and vote, (whether for or against) then I am all for it being on the ballot.

With Madison being so liberal, it has a chance of failing.

Sadly you're right about "traditional marrage" being broken. My folks divorced 15 years ago. My own marriage is getting rocky. I'm doing all I can to fix what's wrong, but the wife isn't so easily moved for some odd reason.

Well, I'm planning on heading around to some of the rural/smaller town areas in Dane counry. Madison is yuppy liberal. Seen that episode of South Park with smug? Kind of like that. I'm honestly surprised that we have a dem gov and two senators with how close this state runs red. That ******* Shitface Tim Michaels actually came close to beating Feingold in '04.

I don't mind getting doors slammed in my face. I just don't want to get on anybody's bad side.

Be prepared for some doors to be slammed in your face. The issue, although a pretty neutral one to you, is one that causes tempers to rise in a hot minute. Some people won't understand your brand of reason, and some will take violent offense to it, and some won't care. Just make sure you don't respond in kind-and don't take it personal.
