Breaking routine I find to be the toughest part.

Drive to work have a smoke.
10AM smoke break, phone call to wifey
Lunch drive home smoke, back to work smoke.
Quittin time, smoke.

First beer, smoke, rinse repeat.
After sex, smoke.

After doing the above for so long, its damn near impossible to just "forget" about that Cig that you would normally have.

Best of luck to you!

I think I've only smoked a total of 25 cigarettes my entire life. Seeing how others have quit it's been just the idea of going cold turkey and doing something that keeps your hands busy. I think Joph said he was obsessed with putting Chapstick on. I know someone else that knitted. And of course, chewing gum.

Sounds like the first week is always the hardest. But stick to it!

Ok, you know when you're about to smoke and you go and get a cigarette and light it and put it in your mouth?

Don't do that.

In addition to Jophiel's sage advice, you may want to try the nicotine patch and the pill. I used zyban, and it worked wonders. It just about elminated my urge to smoke. The patch took care of my nicotine cravings.

The hardest part to break was the routine. Up to a year after I quit, I would find my hand, apparently of its own volition, reaching into my shirt pocket in search of cigarettes.

Good luck.

Whatever floats your boat. From your post, it looks like gangbangs might do it.

Break the routine, as was mentioned. Unles you're one of those sad fuckers that need to chew nicotene gum or wear a patch, it's just a matter of how badly you want it. Also, don't drink for a few weeks, until you've got a lock on not smoking. Nothing screws up your resolve like a few pints.

To answer the original question, you more or less have to make up your mind not to do it. You can't quit if you really don't want to yet.

My suggestion is to make up your mind, then go out drinking tonight and smoke about 2 packs before you pass out. When you wake in the morning, you'll feel like complete ***, breathing will be like trying to suck air through a bag over your head, and it'll be a good 2 or 3 days before even the thought of smoking won't make you retch.

After that, it's all downhill.

I'm going to quit again soon. By soon I mean in the next couple of months, certainly by Christmas.

I am so weak.

Actually, I quit about 1.5 years ago after about twelve years of sending the Marlboro Man's kids through college. What I just described is exactly how I did it. I mean, yeah, I ******* a lot and it sucked but that was how I quit.

Not to detract from your achievement, but quitting is significantly easier when one's significant other is a non-smoker. I should look for one of those, hahaha.

I'm sure it is.

Of course, she wasn't here for the first year of my non-smoking so it would have been insanel easy to cheat if I felt so inclined. With that said, she was amazingly supportive throughout and listened to a lot of cranky Jophiel phonecalls for those first three weeks or so.

Pot. Lots and lots of pot.

Took me about 1/8 to 1/4 a week, plus the patch and a decent amount of cigars.

Mostly, it was the pot. A hitter box with a bat that looks like your favorite brand helps ALOT. Takes care of the mental need for the cigarette in your hands, and the need to inhale smoke of some sort.

Kinda looks link my old one

I quit in about a month and a half useing this method.

Werks for me!
