with me for the winter. Unfortunately with such a slow market and an insane amount of houses up for sale, our contract has finished and we are here for awhile. Sorry Tare. looks like we're going to have to postpone our plans of coffee and chatting a bit longer than I had hoped.
Good news is the anxiety of dealing with the uncertainty is done and we're already moving on, getting ready for DSD demon #2 to arrive in 2 1/2 months and getting the house cozy for the winter. Vacations and getaways are being planned, and Im actually looking forward to everything now that I know whats going on. While this winter is going to suck monkey balls with the combo of newborn/subzero temps and SAD, family is prepped for an exhausted mom, and emergency escape routes have been designated. Smiley: lol

We're going to keep an eye on the market and look to see if its feasible to put it back up come mid Feb, but until then, Massholes look out! You're native DSD is here for a little while yet!

Edited because Alla hates Massholes

Well...atleast THIS Masshole will have something interesting to read in the local paper if she does.

Seriously, my parents own a large amout of forest area in central mass. If you have a wood stove or fireplace I'm sure I could get my hands some wood if you need it. Through word of mouth people are saying it will be a real cold snowy winter.

Awww, sorry that selling your house has proved to be so difficult. Fear not, I am not going anywhere so when you get to NC, I'll be a'waitin'. Smiley: wink

You're going to be so busy come December, you'll forget all about this junk!

Just curious, how much do new homes cost there? Prices here are so ridiculous that everyone is selling. Selling price on our place is 120K more than what we bought it for 3 years ago. I want to live in a house eventually but with the low prices being mid 600K, that doesn't seem likely at the rate the market is going.

Honestly Pikko it really depends on how close to Boston you want to be. I live one hour away and my house was originally up for 335k. 3 BR 1.5 bath, bonus room, full basement and 2 acres on a cul de sac. Brought down to 309k by the end but still didnt sell. Not due to the price, but because of the insane amount of houses for sale competing, not to mention a new development going in down the road. Same house would sell for 600k 20 minutes to Boston.

We actually made sure we were within the competitions prices so thats a fair idea of what houses go for. Played the market and all that. Our realtor wasnt the smartest person though and I think we lost some potentials over his lack of knowledge, but Im not going to cry over spilt milk. Another big reason the market is soft here is due to the fact that everyone wants out of Mass. High taxes, loss of jobs, economy has been diving for years, extreme temperatures per season... add it up and there is nothing really worth keeping people here.

We're about 40 minutes south of Boston, near the RI border and in the 4 years since we bought our house, its value has more than doubled. The problem is, we couldn't sell it in the glutted market even if we wanted to.

There are so many houses for sale now that a real estate agent friend of mine is actually turning sellers down right now.

A co worker of mine is looking to buy a house in the metro west area and people are actually making ridiculous offers to try and get them to buy, she actually showed us a flyer from this one property that promised if you buy the house, the current owners would pre-pay ChemLawn, a landscaper and the alarm company for one year for you as a buying incentive.

Smiley: lol I don't think I would be able to attend, what with a newborn due 9 days before Xmas. Id probably fall asleep the moment conversation lulled.

Prices here have increased over the years, my house included. But again, with so many people wanting out of the state, not enough people are looking to buy. In the past few months I have either met, or knew people who knew someone, who is trying to move to NC specifically, same as us. Im pretty satisfied that I did everythng in my power as a seller to get my house out there and noticed. It was definitely noticed as we had showings quite a bit. But like it was stated, people are waiting for the prices to keep falling. I personally hope that they stablize so I can sell my house and get out of here next time we try it

Sorry about the house, DSD. Smiley: frown Sucks that you have to handle a newborn in crazy-cold temperatures.

Sorry to hear it. I know you were looking forward to the move, but I just read an article on MS-13 and turns out they have quite the presence in NC.

So on the plus side, at least your fingers won't be chopped off by a machete.

Thanks Exo. On a good note though, oil prices are dropping so I can actually keep the house at a decent temp this winter without going broke.

On an unrelated topic, I had to go do my glucose test yesterday ( you drink some orange soda medicine thing and they test your blood for pregnancy diabetes) and while I was there I saw my neighbor who does ultrasounds. For the fun of it she whipped me in her room and gave me another free ultrsound. This lil one is already a whopping 2lb 7oz!!! (average weight is normally just 2lbs.) I havent gained a lot at all this time around (I look the same except I have a tummy) so its all baby.

Man it needs to be December
