You would also fall into the category of people who are trying to make a comparison to something that has **** all to do with the point of the story in the OP.

Actually, it kind of does. Apparently, you don't know what culpable means. (You'll probably go look it up now, which is good, because you'll learn a new word)

I forgive you.

Damned if you do.. damned if you don't. It was either volunteer for what she thought would be an "easy job" or face being voluntold that you were going to be one of Mengele's little projects. Hmm.. what would you choose? Be tortured yourself or gaurd those who are being tortured? I don't care what any of you sh*ts say, my dime is on that you'd sooner choose life than death. Who are we to judge her? Lets get the dust pan out and sweep this back under the rug where it belongs.

German mentality during and after the war: equal parts duty, denial, and secret shame, with a veneer of stoicism

Hogwash. It is you who constructs an artificial anthropomorphic all-encompassing "German" 'mentality'. It is you who veats the drum of make-believe "duty", "denial", and "secret shame".

To brush such crap off one's shoulders is hardly a "veneer" of stoicism[.

But somebody must be paid to atone, even if it is a make-believe conglamatory construction. Those who did, and those who did not. Do what was done, or do not do what was not. Guilty.

Edit:Damn, the dreaded double-post snake-eyes. Oh well, deleted a "done". C'mon, big money, big money, ...

So you don't think there's any such thing as a zeitgeist? No shared national conscience? No sharing of attitudes and mores between closely associated groups of people?

You think, in short, that there's no such thing as culture, I surmise.

But then, you're nuts.

How could, you? Way to be a part of a perpetual motion war machine. Guilt, by association, ftw.

Edit: Forgot about the 'innocence', by association, ftw too.

You do understand, I hope, that conscience is different from guilt?

Oh it is, is it?
To quote myself,

Quote:
Those who did, and those who did not. Do what was done, or do not do what was not. Guilty.

Guilt is somehow delineated by something other than *ACTION*? Talk about orignial sin and just due atonement. Again, WTF does your make-believe anthropomorphic "conscience", let alone some multiplicitous-interconnected-nation-wide-Z-Z-Topp qaukery have to do with anything, that has actually happened, is happening, or will happen? Zip zero. Get it through your head, either Person X did Action Y or they didn't do it! Consciousnesses don't act, let alone "consciousnesses" that are erroneously said to overlap.

C'mon, detail your laughable defense of the 'zeitgeist', "the national conscious", moron. Exhibit A of the telepathy, Exhibit B of the Blaming the Victim error...

Quote:
You do understand, I hope, that conscience is different from guilt?

Yeah, dummy, do you? No such thing as "innocent civilians" when it involves national consciousness?

Quote:
Is she culpable?

That has to do with more than *her*, how? Yeah, the adjectives, German, Jewish, mentality, microcosm, etc. are all 100% B.S. So sorry it's not so convenient for your post-concentration-assignments. But that doesn't make the charge against you *personally*, any less egregious. F-O-O-L, you are *GUILTY* of that which you falsely accuse.

Oh, and for all you can point out wrong with the ****'s. At least they were equal opportunity employers.

Them vs. us, me vs. you. Why cop out behind a word like "vote"? "Alleviation"? National conscious obscuration? Yet, again, it's so easy and convenient to make wild erroneous generalizations which by definition were the same wild unjust generalizations you decry. Oh Person X lives between the borders of Z-Y longitutde and B-A latitude which makes them a "German" and a "****". Wrong.

how about;

maybe, just maybe.... she was just blindly doing a job? and all in all was indifferent to the contemporary social norms of her era? Is that so far a stretch.

Waht was she supposed to do? Say that she quits on moral grounds? That's a tall order for that place and time.

I ask everyone of you people:

If you were a German living in **** Germany and saw that things that were going on, waht would you do about it?

Would you protest the governemnt? Move out of the country?

Chances are you would be caught up in the conveyer-belt of madness as well.

We all have our fantasies.. I can tell myself that if I was there and forced to be a part of that Evil. that I would just kill myself.. while rescuing as many hapless Jews and others as I could....

but in reality.. I couldn't tell you waht I would have done. I'm just glad that I was not living there and then and that's it.

It's the same thing with the kids licking on the dirty fat girl in school. How often do people stop and stand up for them and how often do people just join in for acceptance or fear of reprisal REGARDLESS of principle?

Should she have told the guy? That's between them and thier emotions. The truth is always best... but sometime the truth is not best for certain situations.

For one thing, you could not have missed the point by any wider margin than you did, so well done! For another, get back on your meds. Don't listen to Tom Cruise - they really can help.
