Is it just me, or is the idea of drunk, ugly people grinding up on each other in an attempt to satisfy a biological need disgusting and morally sickening?

I am John Savage.

As irritated as I am by the sexual assault...err..."dance" scene, what I really can't understand is people who listen to techno during their leisure time, like when they're reading a book, or doing homework.

I had a hallmate freshman year who would blast techno during finals week. While he was just sitting in there studying, for god's sake.

The only place techno is good is in the background of futuristic racing games. (namely the Wipeout series) It is only allowed to be played at a loud volume in 5.1 stereo. Then, and only then, is techno acceptable, amid the sounds of your lightning fast hovercar deftly swooping through the cities of tomorrow.

What about action montages in Anime, Martial arts movies, Matrix, so on?

A roundhouse kick to the lower jaw, from across the arena, by a strung out ninja. Can always be enhanced with a slow build to a sweet bass line. ^^

POW! (Techno thumps together with dueling foe's hits.)

urrrrgh! (man falls)

"Now thats what I call... Boulder DASH!" states kicker.

Fallen looks up holding his mouth, "What... boulderdash? What does that mean....?" whimpering.

Kicker glares down, "Don't ask questions about my quick come-back!..... I just broke your jaw... how the hell are you talking?

(Techno continues to build unaware conversation) DUU DUU DUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDU!

Fallen askes, "Why do those Boooobiies jiggle so?"

(DUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUUDER ERE RER E DUDUDUDUDUDUDU)

Kicker kneels to comfort and sit beside Fallen,"I don't know friend, I don't know... Lets jus watch.... them......... goooooo............"

They couldn't be much gayer, so I guess you're right. Techno fits in perfectly there.

I'm a fan of clubbing, but there are two things I hate: techno and random guys coming up behind me trying to get closer than they should. If the guy is respectful and keeps his hands and lower region to himself, Im fine with dancing. But I would rather have a girlfriend with me and good 80's/early 90's dancing music.

Techno inspires people to grind on each other?

Don't you mean hip-hop?

I've never been to a rave or large club with a "techno" DJ where people are rubbing up on each other. Most are too cracked out of their heads to even be able to see straight.

I'll never forget the night that Sasha dropped Airdrawndagger with no head. That was some fu'cked up shi't right there.

The last time I listened to any techno by choice was in the late 80's when every hacked Commodore 64 game came with an intro screen featuring a heavy techno beat, flashing 8-bit graphics and a scrolling text bar saying "PRESENTING GOLDEN AXE!!!!! HAKKED BY MORTIS KREW!!!! ELITE HELLOS TO..." so on and so forth.

I don't think I could take it seriously if I heard it in a club.

I wandered into a club in Adelaide, Austraila that played Techno. It didn't open until 1AM and stayed open till about 10am. A buddy and I stumbled in as we were completely Shitfaced, to the point where we thought we were getting our groove on.

I was that guy, smelling heavily of Jack Daniels and groping anything with bewbs.

By the time we stumbled out of there, I had been slapped 4 times, I'm pretty sure twice by the same gal. People were going to work as it was about 9 in the morning. I had a 2 day hangover, and never went back to the place again.

I prefer Goth clubs, since people there are too scared of smeaking their makeup or ruining their expensive designer depressing clothes to actually touch each other.

You were also the only one who didn't get head butted and kicked by the guy dancing behind us on the 4th of July, while listening to Iris.

As soon as no-talent three chord punk went out of style sometime in the lat 90's, losers with no musical aptitude had to find a new genre to defile and relentlessly ***** to the youth market.

R.I.P. Gravity Kills.

Oh, come on. "Game-boy music" was meant for druggies. Not for people to study in their room or listen to as they shop in the local Tesco.

It's meant for people who take Ecstacy, Speed and shrooms, and spend the night getting ****-faced and dancing like Alzeihmer-affected trouts out of water.

And when you do that, it takes a whole new meaning, man. It's like...wow! The beats they move to your heartbeat, which moves to the beat of the interstellar galactic big-bang which affects the cosmic links to which we are all linked, man.

Try it.

How can you hate techno when it has given us so much?

Like this techno version of Loituma's Ievan Polkka (Eva's Polka), featuring some nice anime as well.

I agree that there is "techno" and "techno". Just like in all kinds of music. It's like saying "rock" sucks because of Bon Jovi.

Some of the stuff that Faithless/Massive Attack/Prodigy has done, to cite but a few, is amazing.

Especially on drugs.

And I like to file both "technos" under "utter shite".

Well duh, everything is better on drugs, even crappy techno.

If things are utter shite, learn to be a fly.

Or something.

For sure, but this music goes hand in hand with the rise of the synthetic drugs. This kind of music was made for these kind of drugs. Raves, and the whole techno movement, wouldn't exist if it wasn't for exctasy and speed.

Not saying it makes it better or anything. Just that if they weren't all drugs, they wouldn't jump up and down for 10 hours in a muddy field to the sound of guy knocking on a door.

Oh well is this the way the future's meant to feel?
Or just 20,000 people standing in a field,
Oh and no one knows exactly where it is...
But that's ok, cos we're all sorted out for Eez and whizz...

I'd say that the ratio of good:bad techno doesn't hold a candle to good:bad rock. Techno is too specific a style, so it just occupies it's own little niche of suckiness in the world.

Massive Attack has a couple of songs that I can stand, but they're more of what I think they call "acid rock" than techno. Very slow and brooding.

If you think there is a good "techno" out there, I'd say you're just mislabeling its superior cousin, industrial rock (early Stabbing Westward, NIN, Orgy).

P.S. By "you" I mean the communal "you"

Possibly. I hate all those sub-classifications of sub-genres. So confusing. Punk-rock, Hardcore, Softcore, Skatecore, Old skool, Alternative, Indie, Gothic, Industrial, New Wave music, No Wave, Ska-punk...

What the fuck... Isn't all Punk?

I hate this labelling. Techno sucks donkey balls. The only true music is the Beatles.

You kids and your "skateboards" and your "hip-hop-duddly-do" make me sick. Bring back compulosry military service and beat the life out of those kids with the stick of discipline and comformity.
