So I'm going to talk about new gear for the upcoming ski/snowboard season. I've been claiming I'm going to buy a new setup for the past 2 years, but this time I mean it. After hitting the major sporting goods stores in the area, my buddy and I went to a small local store to check them out. The main line of snowboards they carry is called Neversummer, which are made out of Denver, Colorado. Apparently they've got a bit of a cult following, and have stayed small up until the last year or two. They are of course still small in comparison to the major board makers, like Burton, K2, etc. I've heard a few people talking about them and the general consensus is riding a Neversummer board is a lot like driving a cadillac, once you ride one you don't want to ride anything else.

The boards are fairly pricey, but from what I hear it may be worth it. So come December I plan on demo-ing one from this local shop to check it out, if it goes well I will probably end up purchasing. The nice thing about this shop is they will put the rental fee (for demo-ing) towards the purchase of the board if you end up buying one.

If any of you riders out there want to check them out, their website is here.

My brother uses a Neversummer. I haven't used it, so I can't say for sure, but his looks a little too heavy for my tastes. It's served him pretty well though, and he's been using it for about 11 years. I've been using a Volkl Sensor for about the same amount of time, and it's been great. Until last winter I had been using the old original bindings, which were about 10 years old themselves. Man, I couldn't believe the difference after I upgraded them. It felt like I was floating.

Hopefully this'll be a better snowboarding season than last one. I'm looking forward to getting back on the slopes.

Last year's season in Colorado was awesome, I couldn't have asked for better snow. Every trip up had fresh powder until the last trip of the year.

My bindings are literally falling apart, so it will be nice to replace those as well.

Ah, I'd kill to go out west again. It's true what they say, once you do the Rockies, the eastern mountains just pale by comparison. Until two years ago, I had never been out west. We did Snowbird and another one that I can't remember. The scale of things is so amazingly different out there. I loved it.

But what I want to do most is one of those backcountry ones where you're dropped from a helicopter out in like, Alaska. That's on my "things to do before I die" list.
