2-Month Old Only Survivor in Phillipston Crash

Posted by ML

Boston (AP) -- An Athol woman and a teen-age girl are dead and a two-month-old boy in the hospital with minor injuries after a car plunges over a bridge in Phillipston.

State Police say the crash happened around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon on Route Two.

The driver and the 17-year-old girl, who was ejected, were pronounced dead at the scene.

State police have identified the woman as 44-year-old Jill Gaskell of Athol.

The boy was taken to Athol Memorial Hospital.

Route 202 -- where the car landed -- was shut down in both directions following the accident.

The car was traveling on Route Two west when the driver apparently lost control and veered off the left shoulder of the highway.

Investigators say the car rolled over on Route 202 before coming to rest upright.

The location is two minutes from my sons school and the way I travel to pick him up. We must have missed this literally by 10 minutes as I picked him up at 3 and let him play on the playground for 15 minutes. How sad for the family.

Close call. She was probably on a Cell Phone so its ok to crash and kill your daughter. Some calls are just too important to wait till you get home.

Near misses like that give me the shivers.

I was driving to La Jolla one time on my way to the beach. The roads going in and coming out of La Jolla are fairly narrow and twisty. Anyway, there were two cars (Ferrari and Porsche) that were racing against each other. What asshats. I was at a red light and the Ferrari and Porsche came barreling around the corner to make a left and the driver of the Porsche lost control. Skidded and slammed right into another car, just a few cars ahead of us. You could see the smoke and smell the burning tires. My husband and I just looked at each other and realized that if we were just a few cars back, we would have been hit. But the Ferrari just kept going. Didn't stop at all. Asshat.

ugh just drove by the area taking my son to school. Deep tire marks on the bank where the car skidded to a halt, glass covering the hill. There were bunches of yellow flowers placed there. Really depressing.
I talked with one of the mothers I'm friends with and she saw it right after the accident happened. She was late picking her son up from school and said when she got to the area, the car was smoking, the body of the teen was in the middle of the road and someone was doing CPR on her. People were running down the bank from Rt 2 to help. The mother was slumped over the drivers seat and no one went to touch her so she must have already been dead. When they took the infant car seat out of the car she started to cry.

Its funny how you take the area you know well for granted. Where the car fell is just a normal part of the highway going over one of the main roads. There has been a lot of road work done in the area, but that section of Rt 2 was finished about a month ago so I dont think grooved pavement would have contributed. Just a really sad set of circumstances

I was on 95 North once, and a crotchrocket speeded past me. The driver popped a wheelie right in front of my car as if to say "F-You, biotch, for not letting me pass", and then promptly wiped out and was almost hit by like, three other cars.

As we sped past him, I had kindness enough in my heart left to scream "Jackass" at him instead of spitting.

Ever see any video footage of people being ejected out of a car during a rollover? They bounce around inside the car until they pop out of a window like a Bingo or Lottery ball popping out of the cage. I rountinely pick up people at wrecks that got only half ejected as the car rolled over them several times. Squishy squishy.

Years ago my family was coming home from a town street fair when we were stopped at a highway intersection. Traffic whizzed by us at about sixty when some asshat across from us decided to pull out into an opcoming Jeep. The asshat spun like a top in the middle of the highway, the Jeep flew off and embedded itself into a stand of trees next to us, and what I assume was a door to the Jeep, crumpled up like a tinfoil ball, flew over the hood to our van (we were the first in the row). I've always been terrified of that intersection since. Yowza!

Why is it that when you pass some people, if they think you shouldn't be passing them, they lay on the horn as you pass? It makes no fucking sense to me. Either turn on those cherries and pull me over or fuck off is what I say. People who are wannabe cops **** me off. The worst is minivan drivers. They are like the mooglefuckers of the road. Always /butthurt and twice as stupid.
