My take on lunchtime napsFollow

A 15-20 minute power nap can be a beautiful thing. I try to get one in at lunch time every day, if I'm feeling a little tired. It can be very rejuvinating, recharging you in order to finish out the day as strong as you went through the morning.

However, there is a danger. If you happen to oversleep, say, by 10 or 15 minutes. That turns a recharging power nap into a draining endeavor. You wake up feeling sluggish, and are a half step behind for the rest of the day. Often this results in a follow-up nap after work (those with kids probably can't pull this off) which may or may not help in getting over the lethargic feeling.

Nappers beware! While a quick power nap can be just what the doctor ordered, taking it too far can be counter-productive.

My afternoon nap just pisses me off these days. I can't get to sleep in time, before Mia wakes up. It sucks ***. Smiley: mad

ALL for lunchtime naps. My ritual (wehn I can) is some grub, a cig, then kick back the car seat to some CSPAN radio in a nice shady spot in some shopping center parking lot.

I can wake up withing 45 minutes on the dot.

If I do perchance to get that sluggishness, a RedBull usually gets me going again. But a few weeks ago I swore off Red Bull. So now it's Mountain Dew.

there are companies in Japan that "sell power nap" stations. the session is 20min as that is what some group of Dr. have found to be best time for refresing vs making you more tired as you stated.

if i nap in the afternoon i either make it few hours (no less then 90min, but prefer 2hrs) or i keep it to under 30min.

that is the nice thing about owning your own business. i can go home for a few hours in the afternoon instead of doing paperwork or making phone calls.

I have no place where I can take a power nap during the work week, but on the weekend, I always take a nap after lunch. I love naps. My husband hates that I can drop off to sleep in less than 10 seconds while he tosses and turns.

Providing that I get no calls to go fly, my routine consists of getting to work and sleeping most of the day.

0700 Show up at work
0715-0745 Preflight
0745-0800 Brief the crew
0800-1100 Nap time
1100-1115 Take a dump
1115-1120 Scratch my nuts
1120-1125 Scratch my a$$
1125-1200 BBQ my lunch
1200-1300 Visit the Asylum
1300-1700 Nap time again
1700-1900 Revisit the Asylum
1900 Go home

I hate you too, Thumb. I can never just drop off, unless I'm exhausted. So, I rarely nap.

I at least lay down for an hour most days, but often just toss and turn until that gets tiring.

Then there are days like today when I fall asleep within 20 minutes and then have strange dreams. Seems that today I was playing eq and too busy chatting, to notice a large black dragon spawn next to me.

Was thinking I should just pay for res in guild hall when I realized I wasn't playing eq, but somehow Disney had infected my computer with a online game.

It's a gift. Smiley: grin My parents will talk about the time where I wanted to take a nap in the middle of the Padres/Cubs game of 1984. This was in last game of the league series to determine who was going to the World Series. It supposedly made history, but all I remember was stretching out across my parents laps and going to sleep. My dad still tells me how he couldn't stand up when Garvey was at bat. Smiley: laugh

I'd probably get an erection if you stretched out across my lap, too.

Sometimes I make myself cringe.

That's a pretty horrible use of liquid latex; I can do much better. Maybe it's just still drying/setting up?

Anyways, I've been taking powernaps at training these past few weeks. They give us an hour or so, but I'm broke and don't eat so I sit on a couch in the hotel lobby and doze off. Today, some of the other guys were sitting around me watching TV. I fell asleep to SportsCenter, their usual show, and woke up to...Judging Amy. Smiley: confused

The nap was so refreshing that I ended up walking about five miles back home from the bus stop instead of waiting 40 minutes for the transfer.

On a slightly related note, what's your take on taking a ****-break at the toilets at work?

I'm just wandering cos I'm sure most guys have done it, or at least thought of doing it. I miss my cigarette breaks, and the only attractive alternative i can think of, are ****-breaks. But then our toilets kinda stink, so it's not that much of a turn-on.

In many ways, it's the best of both worlds. You relax, almost fall alseep, and at the same time you come back to your desk with a spring in your step and a little smile. And clean hands.

Any thoughts?

I find that dozing off on the couch at lunch for 10 minutes does the trick. If need be, when I get home I'll crash for no more then an hour. I am a big fan of naps; I even created a grading scale a couple months back. Its based on naps longer then an hour(goal).

1- Useless nap, didn't even fall asleep
2- Zonked out for 2 minutes and my phone rings, can't get back to sleep
3- had to go to the bathroom too lazy to get up so I stayed awake for 15 minutes, nap aborted
4- slept for 50% less of what my goal was, still tired as the day progressed
5- slept my goal but was a broken sleep
6- slept my goal but woke up hot/cold/sneezing/headache
7- slept my goal but woke up feeling extra groogy and tired
8- slept my goal woke a little groogy but dissipated soon
9- slept my goal woke up completly refreshed and wide awake
10- slept my goal and then some, was not awoken by alarm, phone, person, cat, etc.

The 10 nap is the kind that you take on a Friday afternoon after work. No alarms or distractions and once you awake naturally, the night is yours! My average nap on the weekdays is usually around 7-9. Friday and weekends 8-10.

As for the quick **** while at work, not here. Its a warehouse bathroom frequented by some pretty nasty Shit.

I don't take power-naps at work so much as when I'm driving on the freeway.

I really need to quit that.

I love naps. I adore them. I just never get them unless its a weekend and someone is home to watch my son. Unfortunately he can maintain an insane, constant amount of energy from 6:30 in the morning until 8pm. (hence one of the reasons why I adore coffee too)
I know I will need to nap often once December rolls around with the newest addition, but I may just bring a blanket and pillow down to the couch where I can keep my ears open for trouble.

When you're young, this is almost necessary at times. There's nothing more distracting than having a full-on while trying to get work done. However, as I get older I find that I can easily calm myself with just a little mental effort. And that beats pulling one out in a restroom at work, I can restrain myself till I get home.

I think i'd rather take the 15-30 minutes I get in the morning to just lay in bed with the blankets up to my chin. That is probably my best time of day (on days I work).
