Anyone wanna try and decipher this for me? Ive been trying to figure it out for a while now and its doing my head in..Its from Tony snow at the WH press briefing.
Quote:
If the terrorists have the ability, if the terrorists draw the conclusion that they can use political means -- because they can't defeat us militarily, so it has to be a political battle -- if they can use political means to drive us from Iraq and make Iraq a place from which -- like Afghanistan before -- that could mount terrorist attacks and set up their own headquarters, and this time have, in addition, oil as a weapon -- then that, in fact, is the kind of situation that we can't let stand.

But there are ways of -- you can disagree over a lot of things. If you share the objective of having an Iraq -- and this is what's kind of interesting about the debate last night, because if you look at the President's speech, he talks about an Iraq that's going to be able to be democratic -- I don't know that that's controversial with anybody -- an Iraq where Iraqi forces are going to be able to defend Iraqi ground. I don't know that that's controversial. I think those are the things -- to answer your question, and I'll let you get back to this, to answer your question, it is possible to disagree. But on the other hand, if you are proposing a position that says to bin Laden, in effect, Iraq is yours, then that is not the kind of thing that I think is going to lead to victory.

Answers on a postcard please.

He is possibly saying that if the terrorist get smart theyd use oil as leverage.

After the terrorist read that, im sure he gave them the idea.

He's saying that democracy doesn't work.

Why does Tony Snow hate democracy? Smiley: frown

Well I tried that. I'm now wading thru a 10,000 word thesis on why a mirror is not really a mirror, but is in fact a left wing invention/conspiracy to encourage the mentally challenged amongst us to support communist guerillas in Peru by snorting vast quantities of cocaine, thereby funding arms deals from venezuala leading ultimately to the downfall of western christian fundamentalist belief systems and the demise of of civilisation as we know it......or something like that. i s'pose its all about how you look at it.

I think he's saying that democracy is great when you get the right people elected. But if the US leaves, then those stupid camel-fuckers might just go and elect some crazy Islamist dude that would invite Bin Laden for tea and turn Iraq into a new Afghanistan.

And we can't have that. So, democracy is great as long as you vote for the "right" people.

I've heard that version of democracy somewhere before...
