I don't smoke either and, when I did, I didn't do it in the car.

I'm still able to understand "precedent", however.

Smoking = full out ban soon, coulda told you that eight years ago.

Fast food = next.

They'll start with the same crap of course, laws against feeding kids under the age of eight McDonalds or something. Question is, what comes after McDonalds? The stuff I can see coming isn't what worries me. :p

Regardless if you smoke or not, saying it has zero impact on your property rights is either being very naive or just plain oblivious.

Thanks BT. It was a long road. I couldn't have gotten there without the little people...

You would have been there months ago if you didn't have to turn even the simplest of threads into a 10 page blab-a-thon where you exhausted every post to the point of submission. Submission on the grounds of sheer boredom usually.

Skimmed over some of the posts....

I'm in Joph's camp here. It's not so much about the smoking, it's about having more and more of our personal freedoms taken away.

I wear a seat belt. But I'm very much opposed to the seat belt law. See, that kind of thing.

We lose freedoms every day. Recently, we are no longer able to take liquids on airplanes. Even a child's medicine is now suspect when carried through the terminal gates. They're allowed, though, in the interest of protecting the children.

And frankly, I see nothing wrong with setting a precedent to give up a small personal freedom or two in the "name of the kids". Especially this one. There are places to draw the line, but I don't believe this is it.
