By a bit of kismet, Regina Spektor's first tour was when she was personally invited along to open for the Strokes after they heard her. As an unsigned artist, she had to pay her own way the entire circuit but it got her name out there.

We drove 13 hours and took 2 days off work to see Pearl Jam + Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers in Milwaukee. Color me green.

Are green with envy or just asking for rate-ups to Sage?

Thanks for the link - my wife and I dig her. "Fidelity" was cute. I really liked her song, "Samson" the best. "Better" was a good tune as well. I agree with Neph on the blaxploitation for "On the Radio" - it was way too contrived. The "Us" video was probably my favorite in terms of style - I could do without her forced hiccupping - it's just annoying. Not sure if she's going for a Tori Amos thing or not - it's not working.

Neph were you thinking of Norah Jones (daddy is Ravi Shankar)?

All that said, she's a very classy and beautiful girl. Definite fwappage material. Smiley: sly

RE: vocal hiccups, Joph was listening to her on NPR the other day, and she just likes the vocal gymnastics. I can't recall the exact quote, but I'm sure he'll enlighten me.

Is this an offer to CJ? The ding thread doesn't really seem to be getting it done.

The short version of the voice thing is "because she likes it"

The long version is some story about how she was receiving classical piano training as a child on her family's heirloom piano but, when her family emigrated from Moscow in the 1980's, the Russia declared the piano to be Soviet property and her family had to leave it behind. So she spent her early American years practicing keyboarding on the windowsill and amusing herself with vocal gymnastics.

As long as we're just sharing tunes now, if you haven't heard October Project and enjoy a lush, classical female voice then click the links.

Bury My Lovely
Ariel (it's actually about the Tempest character, not the mermaid)
If I Could

I've no idea why why so many people feel the need to plug October Project songs into their home made movies, but I guess it's for the best since there's no "official" OP videos on YouTube.
