Okay, so today I have an appointment that takes me past this fairly new housing development in called Orenco Station. It's basically a combination of townhomes that are styled to look like brownstones and moderate-sized houses.
The rational, thinking part of my brain knows that these properties are contrived and completely phony, owing nothing to authenticity and everything to DINK wannabes who wish to pretend to be living in someplace with some REAL character, they're drastically overpriced, poorly constructed, will be falling apart in 10 years, are situated on postage-stamp sized lots without even enough room for a hypothetical child to get together a game of kickball, and are overseen by a Gestapo--errr, homeowners association that will slap a giant fine on your *** if your lawn gets to be just two microns too high. In short, they're representative of everything I hate about modern housing developments.
And yet...
AND YET...
Every time I glimpse them, some squeaky, girly voice in my brain says, "But...but...they're so CUTE!!!"
So, time to fess up. What do you find yourself grudgingly admiring? What object do you profess to loathe, yet secretly covet in the deep, dark, shameful recesses of your soul? What gives your Id an ****** while your Superego retches in disgust?
