Yesterday they sentanced former Illinois governor George Ryan to prison for six and a half years. Today, the Tribune ran some semi-fluff piece about what prison Ryan hopes to be sent to. Contained within is this description of the cells:
The Trib wrote:
Oxford has two facilities, one for violent offenders and another for inmates like Ryan, convicted of non-violent crimes. If Ryan ends up there, he likely will live with four other inmates in a spare, tan cinder-block room that is 10 1/2 feet square. It would have no bars or doors, but it would have a window.
Smiley: dubious

Do they drop him in through a hole in the ceiling? Or is it just a cubbyhole in the wall?

Edit: I've no idea why I spelled "prison" with two 'i's -- twice

I've seen them before. Think cubicles for convicts.

From fellow inmates, yes. From guards, no.

I also like the descriptor of "spare".

"What do you want to do with George Ryan?"
"I dunno... put him in the spare room. Clean out the stacks of newspapers and that broken television first though."

It's the room that you keep around in case one of your other rooms goes flat.
