...that the attempt to force a "vote of confidence" against Rumsfeld in the Senate is retarded and pointless. It won't pass, wouldn't affect anything if it did pass and no one is going to base their vote in November on whether or not Pubbie_01 voted for or against the Rumsfeld measure.

It ranks up with the Republican House wasting time voting on the Gay Marriage amendment after it failed in the Senate, just 'cause they wanted to spend an afternoon voting on impotent measures as a political tactic.

There's four weeks before Congress goes into election year recess until November. How about we spend it voting on something useful?

Surprisingly, no. She's been passed around a bit too much for the Nephmeister.

Does Congress get anything done before elections? Hell no. If they vote one way or another, they run the risk of alienating voters, so they all pick spots on the fence and wait until their jobs are secure for another term before doing anything signigicant.

Be that as it may, it doesn't mean I need to be pleased with it nor with this jacking around with confidence votes which accomplishes nothing.

Why must you insult married gays by assuming they're impotent?

It will do way more for the liberal canditates seeking election this fall when the terrorists strike next week. That said, it would have been more wise of the dems to wait until after the attacks, so as to not come off as unsympathetic and stuff.

Funny bit I noticed on my way in to work today.

On the Conservative radio station, you've got Sean Hannity railing on about Republicans dropping issues like Immmigration reform during this session right before the election.

On the Liberal radio station, Ed Shultz is railing on about Democrats pushing this useless Rumsfeld thing instead of pushing issues he thought they should be working on.

I just found it amusing that both were basically ******** about the exact same thing. Congress not doing what they want, and sticking to "tepid" issues instead.

It's looking to me like both parties have pretty much decided they're going to leave things as they are and not shake the bottle up between now and election time. It's already looking like the "key issue" that both are going to run on is the "I'm better for securing the US against terrorists" position. At least that's the only major issue that's actually being argued right at the moment. We'll see if that changes in the next month...

Or re-visit stem cells now that they've developed a process that can allow for harvesting without destroying the embryo. How hard would it be exactly to just make that one change and revote on it? If I were a Liberal, that's what I'd be pushing. Because if it passes you get some credit for accomplishing something valuable. If Bush vetoes it again (which is the only way it wont pass), then you've got that much more ammunition to use since now it can't be about "preserving life" anymore, but rather some opposition to the science itself.

Oh. And don't think I didn't notice the whole "See! I'm bashing Liberals..." bit. Don't worry. I'm giving you a point for that. Although you'd have gotten more if you'd actually named names (other then Rumsfeld, but that doesn't cout obviously), but it's the thought that counts. ;)

Meh. It's Boxer, I believe. Personally, I'd rather be annoyed at the party as a whole than focus on an individual from the other side of the country in a state I'll never vote in.

Lol! Not like you have to be on the other side of the country to have that feeling about Boxer... ;)

As a communist, let me say that I am disappointed that you have not thrown off the shackles of capitalism.

When do policiticans do anything that might actually help the nation?

Not in a million years.

It's like having sex with your granny. It's just wrong.

As for the rest, yes it would be stupid of the Senate to attempt that. And yes, pushing on stem cell research would be great for society, eventhough I doubt that it would be a vote winner.

But how Rumsfeld still has a job despite all teh ****-ups he's made, I find hard to understand. In most other jobs, he would've been fired a long time ago. Between Abu Graib, and Guantanamo, and the failed Iraq invasion. How he ducked the blame for all of that is quite amazing.

Bush isn't a big fan of admitting he was wrong.

Which is and isn't the point. It's not the point because whether or not Rumsfeld should be removed isn't really my gripe. At the same time it is the point because, even if Rumsfeld was drinking the blood of orphans on live TV, all the Senate votes in the world wouldn't make Bush yank him from his office.
