Have any of you tried to use this to access blocked sites at work? I just tested it to get into MySpace, but I'm worried that folks at work can track it.

There is no oversight on where anyone browses. Smiley: grin Everything's on the honor system. You'd think a bunch of lawyers would be a little more circumspect, but these guys aren't.

I would assume that, if the IT folk see you going to a site designed to circumvent filters, it'd set off big red flags.

Well, I was told that the only way they would look was if given cause, i.e. someone caught me looking at **** and reported me, so they went into my cache to see what sites I had been on...

You'd think an insurance company would be a bit more vigilant, too. Maybe they're just scared to talk to me.

Edit: They're probably afraid of me because they think I'm all into kung-fu or some other martial art, due to my time spent browsing a plethura of fisting sites.

I do believe these sites do work as long as your IT dept doesn't know what the site is, then they'll block it too. So I guess you'll be browsing teh **** from work now, eh?

Of course, if your IT dept finds out about it they could go checking user's history and see if they've been visiting it. Also, firewalls typically log the sites that have been visited, but it varies as to how long they keep the log and whether the IT folks check it regularly. Assuming they have the time or would bother with the effort. In my experience IT departments are usually under-staffed anyways, and have plenty to keep them busy. I know that we would just block the site and leave it at that, unless it was found that a user was utilizing the site for some malicious effort.

Thanks for the link btw, I'll be adding it to our blocked list. Smiley: grin

Testing this link out (I know it's blocked on my work server) I noticed that as an anonmouys Proxy user I'd need to set up a new account.

Apparently, "Regsitration is free"

Alas, I know of no such "Regsitration" Smiley: frown

One of the guys in IT, at the company I used to work for, would regularly check for use of proxy sites. We had and on-going issue with about half the staff running internet radio sites while they worked or downloading MP3s all day.

I can understand the mp3 issue, but what's wrong with listening to online radio?

Any IT group worth it's salt can see anything they wish to see. I have access to anything and everything anyone does here should I so choose.

In my experience that is generally the case. Working for a company of your size I'd imagine there would be slightly stricter browsing policies but by the same token more people, therefore more traffic, to track. For the most part IT has better things to do than read your emails and follow your browsing habits unless requested to do so by management. Unless that nerd you turned down for a date is feeling vengeful or someone catches you red-handed at a rather inopportune time I'd venture a guess you don't have much to worry about.
