Finally, some luck...Follow

Last weekend, I went to the Marshfield Fair (a country style fair)here in good old MA. I bought a couple raffle tickets (3 for $20)to support some charity with the grand prize being four free round trip airfare tickets to anywhere within the continental US.

I got a call yesterday from the charity telling me that I WON! My wife thought I was full of sh't when I called her. After 20 minutes of telling her it was the truth, she screamed.

Now, my question is: where do I go? I don't want to do the usual Florida or California thing. I want to go somewhere different.

Anyone have any suggestions? Remember, I have two kids (6yr old boy and 19 month old girl) and would need to do something family style.

What's your time frame for using the tickets? If you can wait til next summer I'd go to Wyoming or Colorado. See some mountains, elk, bears. Ride some horses, go rafting. Go to the Grand Canyon! Or Bryce Canyon.

Sorry, I've got nothing.

1) My vacations are very high-cliff centric
2) I think my sig says it all. My idea of a "fun vacation" isn't what yours would be by any stretch of the imagination.

Although, if you and your fam are into winter stuff, Alaska would be kinda fun I'd think.

Its probably one of those Travel AGency BS giveaways that everyone won. You can pick from like 3 Shitty locations and only flights past 10pm on Wednesdays.

If not I'd say hit up Vegas for a couple days or maybe take it easy and enjoy the changing seasons in upstate NY or Pennsylvania. If ya like Astronomy go to Montana and look at the night skiy, Oregon if you like cliffs and rain, etc etc.

do you have to listen to time share spiels while youre down wherever you pick? Cause I hate those.

With a 6 yr old boy, I would pick a place maybe that has some fun things for him to do. Theres Texas and San Diego that has a lot of museums, amusement parks and Sea World, which your son will adore. I know you hate to do the FL thing, but Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando is great for a kid his age, not to mention insanely great food on the boardwalk. Plus there's Disney if you feel the need to go.

Or there is Yellow Stone National Park, which is a great place to get away with your family. You could even look around for areas that rent out cabins. With it being the beginning of school you might get some good discounts.

No, no, it was an actual raffle. No BS travel sales pitch involved at all. They are vouchers for Delta air and need to be used within one year of issue date which, leaves me about 10 and a half months to use them. I know it is not a sales pitch thing as I have to pay prize taxes (which sucks).

They have to be used within the continental US so, Alaska and Hawaii or out.

I have been to Vegas way too many times so that is out. We do Florida every year already so that is out.

I was thinking maybe the Grand Canyon or Seattle. I like the Montana suggestion too.

I would go with what Samira said and do the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone if you can. If you like, you can even do Vegas and have the Grand Canyon as a day-trip!

er yeah, lol, I skimmed through the message too fast and misread it as saying with his Ma. I had just thought he was a lucky mama's boy from some unkown state.

So Bahnstan or NYC is out. I recommend Arizona, hot and dry, which will be welcome change from the current weather in the NE.

I did the helicopter ride from Vegas into the Grand Canyon once. That was incredible. Cost $300 per person but was well worth it.

I am going to look into Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. I am going to look into San Diego also. I always wanted to see their zoo.

go for a national Park. My choice would be the Grand Canyon, but don't just drive up to the rim and look down and then drive away. We spent a week on the south rim camping and found the view was always changing.

Our kids love the trip and camping, as we drove to Chicago. We also did Zion and the Rocky Nation Parks. and spent a week in each. You'll be surpise how much you can do even if you end up in the tent for a ffew days while it rains. Course my kids were 4 and 2 and we had lots of books, crayons and toys for them along too.

I went to Yellowstone in the early summer, and to San Diego in the early fall. San Diego as a city is not very picturesque, but the people are friendly as heck and the weather is fantastic.

My personal favorite national park is Glacier National Park. Yellowstone is a lot of fun, but there were to many tourists there for me. Also, I thought the natural beauty of Glacier was far superior to Yellowstone.

Unfortunately, I doubt your little ones will get much out of it.

Have you ever considered San Antonio?

I know you said you go to Florida every year, but they do have a Sea World as well as all of the historical sites.

And congratulations on winning the tickets.

the Atlantis Resort in nassau bahamas. awsome place, good for whole familey....if you stay away from the casino anyway.

expensive though. looking at 250 to 300 a night plus a food package of 500 to 1200 bucks to boot.

renting a cabin on lake ozark. laid back, fishing /boating and not too pricy.

the disney cruise was awsome too. very familey friendly.

No new US cities in the continental US. Maybe next year when we invade Toronto.

If you go to San Diego, you can make some extra $$$ to pay for the hotel by bringing a couple Messicans up from TJ.
