You sir, are an idiot. NO is behind some very rickity ***** which cannot hold back the flood waters no matter how many times you rebuild them. The water level is rising about a foot a year (need to find the article) around those levees. Another hurricane could cause even more death and destruction. Letting those people rebuild there is the equivalent to letting people have assisted suicides.

The levees could do the job if the government, the corps of engineers and the major oil companies hadn't destroyed the coastline and the wetlands. Idiot.

Sure, the levees could do the job if the water wasnt rising. Linkee and another linkee Why keep rebuilding these levees in the same spot? We will have to keep redoing them and its a losing battle. It's not worth the risk of losing thousands of lives again. Let them settle farther back from the coast. I'm not saying dont rebuild near New Orleans, I'm saying DONT ******* MOVE RIGHT UNDER THOSE LEVEES AGAIN! IF your house was ripped off of its foundation from the flood waters, its a pretty good idea to go ahead and assume it will happen again. MOVE!

The Doooch say they could rebuild the levee system in and around Nawlins for less than $10 billion, which is not a bad price considering we are spending in excess of 6 bill just to examine the problem and throw some dirt on the leveees that broke a year ago. Moreover, the **** system they have constructed protected the Nederlands is built for a 10,000 year flood, not a mere 100 year flood like the one that hit Looosiana.

I think the point that should be made is nature will always find a way; levees or not.

On a side note, I watched "When the Levees Broke" the other night. It is a Spike Lee documentary on New Orleans and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Katrina/New Orleans.

That explains the 57 v 42 percent Republican win in 2004.

Why build cities on fault lines?

Yes, if the wetlands/ coast had not been ravaged to supply the rest of the country with oil, the levees would work. Will work if it is ever repaired. That alone is reason enough to rebuild, unless you like 4 dollar/gallon gasoline.

If you really think N.O. is sinking because of glaciers, YOU are the idiot, Katie.Do a bit more research.

well. wouldn't you tie in the melting ice caps and glaciers with a change in the global weather patterns due to the changing tempuratures and air pressures and ocean currents.

I'm in no way a meteorologist, but I think wehn scientists have been talking about flooding for the past few decades or wahtever.. that it ain't gonna just be a gradual increase in the depths of the seas.... but is coming in the form of these storms... I mean there seems to be more floods in the past 10 years then there ever has been. It makes sense that it wouuld tie in with the increasing global tempurature.

We've already seen proof that the ocean levels are rising. There are towns in the gulf of Mexico that underwater from the time of the spanish invasion. We are already seeing the effect on glaciers and the polar ice caps. What more proof do you need? Let me guess you also dont believe in global warming? There are no holes in the ozone are there?

I'm of the belief that this is more part of a natural cycle than of our own meddling. Or, to give ourselves more credit, roughly comparable to a natural disaster on the scale of a large volcano eruption or meteor strike.

If you all would like to see a great movie about global warming AND what you can do about it you should see the movie "An Inconvenient Truth".

This is a website about it. http://www.climatecrisis.net/

Very informative and very interesting.

Edited because I left 2 somethings out!

Did you watch 20/20 last night, too? I vote Mega-Volcano as my favorite doomsday scenario.

On Demand had something really cool on the Super Volcano that is actually located under Yellow Stone Park. Watching that was insane

Yeah!

They were showing all sorts of simulations last night on this two hour special. The Yellow Stone thing was my favorite, followed closely by Captain Trips.

freaky to know how its close to its next "scheduled" eruption, and how the lake nearby has already been shown to be sinking due to movement underneath the ground

Twist it how you like, the simple fact is the people put a conservative in the nation's highest position. Look at how he responded; who knows maybe Texans in general shouldn't have that much power; however I tend to think it was his conservative ideology, not his origin, that induced his inability to act. When you're always looking for a handout that mentality isn't conducive to helping yourself.
You raise some valid points.

Did I say that? Do the research, New orleans is NOT sinking from any of those causes, it is sinking from erosion from poorly dug canals/ water routes, the destruction of the coastline and the erosion of the wetlands. None of which is cause by global warming. Goddamn you are dense.

Also, a liberal mayor in new orleans, liberal city ouncil, liberal state legislature. liberal democrats have run new orleans( and louisiana) for as long as I can remenber, look at the fine job they have done with the place.

Just look at houston, these people have had a handout mentality for generations, because as long as they vote democrat they get free housing and a ridiculous amount of handouts. And everyone is surprised that they feel they don't need to work for what they get.
