Lots of untreated sewage and the ashes of cremated people. Given that their cremation abilities aren't the best, there's also bits of not-so-cremated-people and the critters that gnaw on them.

(edit - oh, and I almost forgot - there's the still-living people taking holy baths in the same water, for ritualistic "cleansing" ---- India's going to be the most populous planet (and this is w/out Pakistan and Bangladesh, which used to be included w/ India) - in part the reason why so much weird crap comes out of the place is pure numbers).
