. . . and then there are British Nutters

Quote:
Man seen dangling from power line

Shocking pictures of a young man "lucky to be alive" after he dangled from overhead rail cables have been issued by transport police.

A passenger took pictures of the man as he hung from the 25,000 volt cables in Tamworth, Staffordshire, earlier this month, and handed them into police.

I lub this guy!

Well, if he wasn't grounded, he would be fine, right? Isn't that the same principle as how birds and squirrels can walk and sit on power lines?

Yeah, but he must have touched something that was grounded while getting up there though.

Yeah, but second picture shows him with one hand on the wire and the other on a metal stairway...

There was a second picture?

I was not aware of that.

And then there are violent nutters. A 10-year-old kid participating in the shooting of a dad because of a "clash".

Fucked up. I blame world of Warcraft, personally. And Starbucks.

Quote:
Mr Woodhams, 22, from Canning Town, east London, was shot dead on Monday outside his house. He had confronted members of a gang several times because of their antisocial behaviour, according to his fiancée, Jane Bowden. Miss Bowden, 23, said the family phoned the police every day for five weeks after the stabbing but they failed to take a statement.

She said the gang had thrown stones at their house and car and shouted abuse since the knife attack.

[...]

A 14-year-old arrested over Mr Woodhams' murder, who had also been held in connection with the earlier stabbing, has been released on bail.

In theory, as he did not touch the ground (or come too close to a grounded object) and did not touch any other energized wire while holding on to the train cable he would not be electorcuted. The current would not have a reason to enter his body because the cable is a better conducter than his body (this is why birds can sit on powerlines and not get cooked), but the moment he touched the ground (i.e. becomes grounded)the path to the lowest engery state would be through him and ZAP!!!! He would also be fried if he touched two different cables at the same time because he would provide a route between the two to reach equilibrium.

Woo hoo, putting that college phyics to work in a practical setting.

Second picture shows him touching the wire and the building. So much for your physics.

I think the article mentioned the power was coincidentally cut off at the time.

There was still a chance at a charge being in the wire.
