My new computer just arrived. I ordered it a few days ago and wasnt expecting it until next week minimum, but all the shiny new pieces are sitting on my livingroom floor all boxed up, waiting to be lovingly put together.

I know barely anything about specs, but I do know I got 4gigs of memory, and 256MB Nvidia graphics card. Oh, it's a Dell

Im hoping that by tonight/tomorrow I can try out playing my games and record while raiding with my new toy. Smiley: grin

That's the one I bought. I love it.

Even with 1 gig of RAM,m I can run WoW full blast (even the options I can't even notice) without even a hiccup in IF. Which means you could probably run 3 simultaneous copies of EQ2: The Polygon Heads Fight Back.

Enjoy.

Between the Mr and I we have 3 accounts for EQ2. he has the same PC as the one I bought, I just got the newest graphics card and I think one more gig of mem. Hes been able to twobox with ease while raiding. Im hoping I can retake over my fury and two box better. That and stop raiding in the worst graphic setting possible

Nice DSD. I thought I would be buying a computer with the extra $2000 I was crowing about, but I'm using the money for 4 paralegal classes for my career. /jealous

I bought mine, sans the 4gig RAM, for $1500 financed 0 interest for 18 months.
You just need to get your priorities straight.

That does sound like a pretty sweet system. Nice buy DSD.

A co-workers husband builds them for a hobby and I've expresed my interest in having one built. Alas, I know bupkiss about what I should get. I do have an idea of what I want it to run though.

MMO's (highest settings possible)
Photoshop (or any beafy photo programs, quickly becoming a hobby of mine)
Music (I have 20 gigs now, only because I cant fit anymore on my comp currently)
Movie editers (another thing I would like to get into)

I know that I need Memory and alot of it. Lots of ram. But the graphics cards and audio cards confuse the hell out of me.

I've got about 700 - 1000 bucks. Any recomendations?

Most women crave stuff like peanutbutter and salmon sammiches on pumpernickel or something.

Geek women?

They crave new computers. At least it wasn't a weird craving and she bought something silly like a Mac so she could play the mac version of EQ.

Once everything is installed, Ill record some footage of EQ2 and see how well it flies. If we can get it in place for tonights raiding Ill test it out there, which is my biggest test for this baby. Ill link the results here when I get them.

Oooooh I cant wait!

I do, and it has 2G of mem. But for some reason no matter how well I continue to upgrade it, it can not handle the raiding abilities in EQ2. It still works great for everything else, but seeing as I love to record our raids and can no longer do that without lag and it looking like crap, it was time for a serious overhaul. Besides the Alienwares are loud!

Excellent machine there.

I have been thinking about rebuilding my machine using:

Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz / 2MB Cache / 1066MHz FSB / Dual-Core / Socket 775

and

ATI x1300 (Possibly x2, using their Crossfire support)

Anyone have experience using Crossfire? Does it show that much improvement?

I was working my old teenage retail job one day when we had a dump truck hit the store. Driver jumped out of it to go to the bank, didn't set the brake and the truck rolled forward across the parking lot and into the front of the store. Luckily, it didn't come into the store -- just pushed the masonry and bottom of the window in a foot or so. It was a wonder that the plate glass storefront windows didn't break.

Ooohh, an XPS 400! nice!

I'm currently working on finishing the ultimate EQ2 gaming computer myself. Just waiting for the second Geforce FX 7900 to arrive so I can put the water blocks on it and load up my brand new Quad-SLI system.

Dell bought Alienware, so technically you almost sort of bought a new alienware?

Crossfire is not nearly as fast as SLI.
