Not freeware, but +1 Bodhi.

And to add my 2bits to the question asked,

Firefox
Adaware
Spybot
AVG
FRAPS (well... I paid eventually)
Azaril's Windower
Spyle's Parser
Turbo (slows down cpu for playing certain older games smoothly)

Medieval: Total War is the bane of Miss Atomicflea. I did give up MMORPG's (my choice, not her's -- didn't have enough playtime to justify the $15) but now I spend a lot more time running down routing Trebizoid Archers with my Polish Retainers.

Speaking of, an open note to anyone attending a Rennissance Faire. When dressing for such an event (and we did not but many patrons did), please note that the era in question is roughly from the mid 1300's to the early 1500's. If you must, you can probably throw an extra fifty years "play" into either end. In any event, during this period in history, the following were not commonly worn by noblewoman, aristocrat nor serf: black lipstick, fishnet stockings, silver ankhs, pleated miniskirts.

Apparently quite a few people were under the impression that rural England in the 1490's was inhabited primarily by time travelling Anne Rice style vampires from five hundred years in the future.

I've heard mixed reviews. I'd play it if it ever fell into my lap, but I'm not ready to go buy it since I'm having fun enough in MTW.

Plus I like the medieval era better as a setting Smiley: grin

Didn't care for RTW, so I went back to Medieval.

Do you play w/ any mods? VI?

I've only ever used the polish for marrying off daughters to, haven't completed a campaign with them yet.

It's entirely possible that they weren't dressed for the event at all. Depressing, but possible.

I'll admit that possibility, Samira, although their escorts were generally dressed in some sort of hybrid swashbuckler-wizard garb with high leather boots, black cloak, medallion, silk shirt and walking staff.

I'll also admit to the possibility that they might dress like swashbuckler-wizards when dining at TGI Friday's.

It's a tough starting spot but I had to be true to my heritage Smiley: grin Small starting area, no secure borders, Catholic but you can't crusade, if you expand eastward you open yourself to the Golden Horde, only "hero" you get is one bishop, etc. But now it'll seem easier when I play the English or Almohads Smiley: wink2

Typical bloody yanks - no sense of real history.

ISTR the chicks in the 1490s were all into Puff-Ball skirts, "Frankie Says Relax" T-Shirts and Lady Diana collars.

or was that the 1530s?
