Claiming to be better than one person in specific is beneath me. It easily takes half a dozen of you humps to form my equal.

Oh, and I had not heard the term "hobo" in a while. Nice.

A good point, but I wouldn't wear it on the London Eye.

I'd rather be seen in a monkey thong on the Eye than gracing the driver's seat of "the Bubble Car for the 21st Century"

Seriously mate. Why an A3?

1) I don't have a driving license
2) Passing a test is easier in a relatively small car, and not too powerful
3) Relatively small cars are de rigeur in London

Therefore hatchback is best choice for me at this moment in time. I like 3 hatchbacks - Golfs, BMW 1 Series and Audi A3 Sportbacks (5 dr version).

The best Golf is the GTI, but too powerful for a learner imo. I find the rest of the range a bit average in all respects. So a toss-up between the Beamer and the Audi. I happen to prefer the Audi, and the one I bought looks suitably manly (deep black, good alloys), and has a 2.0 litre engine.

When I have a license and enough driving experience, I might consider a Porsche Caymen or 911. For now, I think the examiner might think of me as a complete **** if I rocked up for my test in a Porka.

OK. Taking into account your criteria... Tough call.

Beemer 1 series. Not quite as ghey as an A3, but close.

Golf - acceptable, providing you have a sticker in the back saying "My other car is an A3". You know the throttle pedal isn't a switch doncha? The GTI is maneuverable, economical at low revs, and would be ideal.

If you tell me you went for the manual gearbox in the Sassoon-mobile, you might redeem yourself a tad.

Just an observation that Audi A3's have the "Boyzone's Greatest Hits" CD and a car park pass to G.A.Y. included as standard. You knew that, right?

But gratz on the paywad ya capitalist Brummie sell-out.

My first car was a 1979 Ford Mustang. Really not a bad car. Got it in 1991.

Of course, I could look good cruising town in a Chevette or a 1984 tan VW Rabbit. When you have the tools, the accessories don't mean as much.

My first car was a 1972 MG Midget. FUcking sweet little ride. I bought it for four-hundred dollars the summer before I turned fifteen with proceeds earned from the first job I ever had: washing balls at the batting cage. Spent the winter restoring it to at least semi-decent standards. I learned to drive in this car, although I can't remember if it was a four or five speed, but I do remember that one day while cruising down the main drag here in town, with my father in the car since I still only had a permit, the shifter just slid right out and after I got it home I never drove it again. Which is okay, because the insurance company said they would never insure it for a sixteen year-old male, anyway.

Now make fun of my first job.

An '88 Chevette purchased for $700 after I cashed in a bunch of savings bonds my gradfather had given me for every birthday.

It was christened "Cocoa Beware," and it was a total piece of crap. But it was MY piece of crap, by god!

Nahhh, you guys couldn't get laid if you crawled up inside a chicken's a$$.

Well, we don't actually know that you're tappin' that 'tang, Nobs. At this point all we have is rumor, innuendo, and grimace producing conjecture. After all, there are things in this life too horrible to contemplate.
