Ah, it was a great day. I'm sore from flying too much, but it was definitly worth it.
Got there about 2PM, broke out the two stunt kites I brought with me and the one new one I bought yesterday. Wind conditions were great, strong, just under being too strong, steady, no lulls. Perfect for flying the big 7 foot wingspan Delta style stunt kites I tend to favor.
The first one up was a homebuilt model I desgned and built. This was the second flight of it, so I was still working out a few design issues. It flew ok for the most part, I had a slight harmonic in the wing tips at high speed that I need to fix, but it was definitly controllable and fairly stable in flight patterns. I had that one up for about half an hour, then I snapped one of the bridal lines. It will return to the skies soon, but I decide that was enough of that one for the day.
Next up i took the Prism stunt kite out for a spin. It flew well, and I flew it for about an hour before i turned the reins on that one over to my brother who wanted a turn, and I took my new HQ Tramo stunt kite out for a spin. All told I ended up flying for about 5 hours straight. I'll upload the puctures in a little while
After that, we went for clam chowder and fish and chips. Then we attempted to watch the sunset, which ended up being just a sinker, and started home. About halfway back, we stopped to watch the leonids meteor shower. We found a nice empty field just off the road with no lights, and we were able to get a pretty good show.
Or should I say... Almost empty field
We had been there about 20 minutes when the cows came home. Literally. Apperently a free roaming pack of cows lived in that unfenced field, led by one very large, with very big horns black bull. He got about 30 feet away, not charging or anything, but moving closer, before we decided that we didn't want to be nearby if he took exception to us. There ought to be a cow leash law!
So, we made it back at about 1 am. Very good trip. SO i'm sunburned and sore now, but it was worth it!
edit: and there were no paris hiltons anywhere to be found. Wrong long beach.
