Today, my job has ended at a random note. My boss laid me off. For no real reason. He literally just woke up and laid me off.

I finished all of my paper work, like normal routine, and he stops me along the way to the door.

"I'm thinking of heading towards a different direction with the business...today is your last day."

Mind you, there was no privacy on this matter; I was fired/laid off right infront of another worker.

I returned him a puzzled WTF look and replied, "Where did THAT come from?"

He replies, with all his ingenious knowledge, "It was a decision I made."

Well, that sure as hell cleared up the murky waters. Smiley: oyvey

Shortly after I left the office, I get a call from the worker who witnessed it on my cell phone, "Dude....what the HELL just happened? Is he CRAZY?"

At the moment, the only other person that knows how to do my job (which is the -whole- company's finances) is his daughter...who JUST went back to school and wouldn't be able to make it in at all (and has delibretly told me she has no desire to.)

I swear he's a class A ******.

Looks like I'm going to have plenty of time on my hands for a bit.

On the one hand, that sucks. On the other hand, it's probably the nicest thing he could have done for you.

Working for wackos is only entertaining for a while. You can do better.

That's more or less how I'm taking it. I was considering looking for a new place of employment, since I can't say I was too happy working there, but I was laid back with it.

This is more just pushing me to search just a tad faster. Smiley: laugh

And - AND - now you can ask his hot daughter out, and make her feel guilty if she says no. Win!

Well, at least you can get unemployment since you didn't quit. Assuming of course you can stand the hell that is being on the Government Tit. Personally, my one attempt at it ended up in me giving up after 2 weeks and just flying solo till I got a job.

Good luck in the hunt.

Dang Exo. That's just...just...wrong the way your boss did it. This had nothing to do with the warehouse incident last month?

$10 says he will be begging you to come back within a week to train someone to do the job. It's the proffesional thing to do he will say and you will be compelled to do it, if for no other reason than a good reference.

If I knew, I'd tell you. This is spontaneous. If that's his reasoning, he's retarded. If I would've caused that incident, I wouldn't be typing right now.

Not just that, but who do you think he will call if his computer/network goes bottom's up? Your's truly. Heck, his main computer was built by scratch by me.

All I know is that if he does beg me back cause well...who the heck is doing payroll, I'm going to ask for more hours and a substancial raise. Providing he's lucky enough that I didn't find a better place of employment.

Sorry to hear about that, Exo.

It'll work out better for you anyway. After the whole warehouse incident last month it doesn't seem like the safest place to work anyway.

Maybe your boss was secretly replaced by a brain dead zombie clone?
Hell if they want you back, tell them you want a pay raise AND a garunteed contract. That does suck though. Didn't even give you 2 weeks. Did you get any severance pay?

Damn, Thats horrible.

Did he ever get back to you or tell you what you did? I would atleast get someone to try to talk to his dumb ***. It doesnt seem right just to lay one off like that.

Like most of this thread said, I'm guessing he will try to get you back. I wouldnt even consider it without a good enough reason on why he did it however, or unless you couldnt find something better. Depends what the situation is I guess.

Isn't there a law about having to hand the person their paycheck when they kick you out the door? Or is that just in TV land?

Don't go back if he asks you Exo. Your future employers will admire you for it.

that seemed way out of left field. And you're absolutely positive this has nothing to do with that collapse?

Sorry to hear it, but like Sam said, go date his daughter for awhile. That should bring a smile to your face. Even if shes not your type just him knowing what you "could" be doing is worth it

This scenario is a prime example of why I always keep a bag of my own ***** in the bottom right desk drawer. In the event of my sudden termination I can thereby hurl the excrement against the ceiling and holler: Ha! Good luck cleaning that up!

Looking on the bright-side, with the holidays fast approaching we are entering the home invasion season, and you've got that hungry, entrepreneaurial look to you.

Entrepreneaurial?

Sorry your boss is a dumbasS! You are probably better off in the long run rather than work for him. I know that upon the ocassion that I had to leave a job, I pretty much found a better one either in salary or working conditions fairly shortly thereafter. Good Luck.

And Exo, go file for unemployment ASAP. It takes a while for the paperwork to go through and they'll require that you check in periodically and give them three jobs you've applied to, but it frees up the time and necessary resources to allow you to job-hunt effectively. Nothin' quite like trying to decide between the 8-hour temp assignment you need to pay your bills and the 2-hour job interview you could possibly score a regular paycheck with.
I know there is some stigma attached, but that money was put there for precisely this kind of a situation and you'll actually be using it in the manner it was intended. Good luck. If your health benefits extend until the end of the month, make sure you get your check-ups in.
