My stepfather quit because the doctor told him he was going to die (soon) otherwise.
My stepmother uses the nicotine gum, but still smokes a bit on the side.
My mother still smokes.
After living through all of this, I have never had the desire to start. I have friends who quit smoking, and all of the success stories came from quitting cold turkey. One of ex-smokers even complains about smokers now that he can smell them. Best of luck!

It's been over a month now since I quit, maybe a month and a half, I really can't remember when it was (I could check my blog I guess, I don't remember anything I don't write down, haha). I have days were I *really* want one, but for some reason I'm stupidly optimistic about not starting up again. I guess if I can not be smoking during one of the most stressful periods of my life than it should indicate that I'm capable of not starting the next time the **** hits the fan...which is my traditional excuse to smoke again.

It's too damn expensive these days anyway, haha.

Oh, and sorry for totally forgetting what I was going to say regarding the quitting thing. I always cut down to one or two as well, but then you just have to stop. I always picked a date well ahead of time, so I could make my peace with it. I need to know that *that* cigarette is the last one. I usually have a little date with the cigarette, have a good meal, and enjoy it with a cup of coffee or whatever afterward. Then we part ways.

I realize that this makes me a total loon, but hey, whatever works.

Something tells me that if Nexa has quit enough times to describe what she "always" or "usually" does, you probably shouldn't immitate her in your quitting smoking routine. Smiley: laugh

Hey! This is it baby! This time it is right, it will work, and no one will have to get nailed to anything!

I started smoking...15 years ago. I've quit a few times, hehe. Of course, there was no reduction when I got pregnant, I just stopped completely the day I found out. I'm still irritated that I ever started up again after she was born, but oh well. This is it though! No, SERIOUSLY! Smiley: mad
