So if IMing is the new dating...does that mean IMing someone means you are cheating on your spouse/(in)significant other?

When my fiance and I are playing WoW, it's easier for us to just type to eachother. Her computer is in the living room, mine in the bedroom. There's only one wall between us, but we have to shout sometimes due to music, tv sounds, or our dog barking. Sometimes it brings back old feelings and such, since that used to be our main way of communication before she moved in with me.

My girlfriend and I would do this all the time since she played EQ2 while on TeamSpeak/Ventrilo with her guild, and couldn't be bothered to disengage the headset to talk to me. Which is fine, since I'm not a talker anyways. The less I express vocally the better for me.

These days, since we're living apart our relationship is almost entirely via AIM. We have a long-distance relationship all of four miles.

My Pm stack grows faster than I can get rid of it most days.

It would be interesting to see a "top 250 PM users by Sent Pm's and Recieved PM's" someday

I made that once. It's how I found out about Joph and Flea going out, before it was public.

Guess who the top two are BTW?

my girlfriend and I used to say almost everything to each other over msn and we'd say very little whenever we went out, but now we say almost everything to each other face to face and very little on msn.

While I was working in France, one of the English teachers I worked with showed me an article about "silent speed dating" that's all the rage in New York at the moment.

It's like the speed dating you see in movies all the time (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Hitch, etc.) where you bop from potential date to potential date 60 seconds at a time... except you don't say a word to each other. You just look into each other's eyes with a neutral expression for 60 seconds.

When it's all over, if so tempted, you can start a conversation, but during the actual "speed dating" part, no talking is allowed.

Creepy as hell, if you ask me.

I think the stuff in this article is pretty strange, too, but at least it's a form of communication. Lots of people on these forums have acknowledged how much easier it is to express themselves by typing instead of speaking. That particular couple just took it to the extreme.

When I was in college, I sent my girlfriend an IM from across the building. Her response was quick and simple: "Why the **** are you IM'ing me? Just come see me."

I've been know so send random mushy IM/PM to the wife.

usually when she's ignored the last 3 kisses i've blown here since she was to absorbed in xxxx game to notice.

She just usually hits me if i ignore her, all fair in love and war.

I did send her some ingame roses once since i forgot to buy some real one, and surprisingly i got a better reaction.

We did when we played EQ together. Generally we use the old-fashioned face-to-face communication technique.

we did this too, but added to the hilarity by implenting EQwatcher. It makes your computer speak like Stephen Hawkings when you get a private tell in the game. Let me tell you, trying to "sweet talk" your honey whos sitting right next to you, so you can hear the devoid of emotion computer voice as it says you want to get nasty.... you end up laughing your *** off until the tears just wont stop.
