I understand honesty, saying "Look, you're obviously screwed in the head, so forget it", but picking on specifically the thing that seems to be the crux of her issue, ie, her weight, well, that just seems like salting the wound for no good reason. I t won't help her, it doesn't make you look good, and overall, it's just bad chi meted out into the stratosphere for no good reason. I understand not being kind, but I don't get why being cruel would be desirable.

You know, this whole thread is ripe for a sausage joke. I'm surprised that none of you jumped on the opprotunity.

"Generally I try to stay out of the Asylum, but I have a problem, and there have to be some people here who are at least experienced with this disease.
The basic story, I'm 18. My friend's neighbor is divorced and moved here from Canada." --DeathtotheFrench

I'm sorry, but there is no cure for being Canadian. Sadly, it is a terminal illness. The good news, on the other hand, is that you eventually will have a birthday.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder, the likely underlying psychological condition this young lady has, is not one which he will be able to fix regardless if he takes the advice of the boneheads on this board dispensing worthless medical "cures." These people (assuming she actually has anorexia and doesn't just want to fit into size 1 jeans) who believe they are overweight or think they would look better thinner are, scientists believe, are suffering from a hormonal imbalance which affects seratonin or dopamine, I forget which. Regardless, pleading, begging, crying, threatening, force feeding, none of these work in the long term. Psychological and chemical help is necessary to correct her self-body image.

Well, I do have a bit of education in Psychology .. and have worked in the Mental Health feild for over 8 years now. The good news is, it sounds to me like this girl really is just attention seeking.

As a general rule, people with true eating disorders to not talk about it or brag about it. In fact, these people really dont believe they have a problem (similar to alcoholism, drug addiction, etc.) or, if they do know they have a problem, they try to hide it, deny it or "pretend" to not have the disorder so that people do not interfere with thier dysfunctional habits. Generally, a person with a true eating disorder will be consulted by a therapist of some sort to try and change thier distorted views of themselves.

I will also agree with a prior poster about the fact that many young girls go on "whim diets" that generally dont last long.

Last but not least, if this girl truely does have anorexia .. she needs help ASAP. Tell her family, a friend .. anyone that may be able to persuade her to seek professional help.
